Inexpensive/simple set up for titler and mixer

Recommended Posts

Any suggestions for a simple and cheaper way to set up for doing simple editing and mixing? Just need to be able to put music and titles on.

If you have model names of a unit, it will really help. Do they make something that is all in one that is just for editing onto VHS? I looked at the Sony RME 700 units but don't know if they would work. Don't know anything about them. But they are cheap.

Get a computer with two big hard drives and then put adobe pro on it and then read the five inch thick manual and walla. but you should be able to pick it up pretty easy just by playing around with it. thats what i did, read no manual or directions, you should be able to do simple titles, any music from the computer, and some transitions. then just export to tape or rip a dvd

For "real" video production (boogie videos, mass market DVDs, ect), you're right a non-linear editing system is the way to go, however, depending on what he's doing, NLE may be impractical.

For most very large tandem/school situations, a good ol' analog set up is -much- faster.

Videonics MX-1,or MX-1 pro, or MX-1 pro-dv for simple transitions 4 chan input,one out.
Videonics titlemaker 2000 to add text with trans.
Search E-bay for above or google.
And a audio mixer board can get a radio shack for about 40 bucks.PM Clint Mcbeth in moab he was using it with VHS & DVD. Not a bad system and done in realtime, read fast.

yeah they are better for large production but those are what the dinosaurs used and we all know what happened to them

I dunno . . . Perris seems to still be in business and they might do upwards of 100 tandems in a weekend.

If I had the money to redo my system (MX-1,title2000) I would go with the MX-1 pro-dv, so input and output are firewire.
But for the cost of the pro-dv thats a lot of bread but it would be the way to go in the long run.
Panisonic also has some editing boards out there I have seen at dz's but not used myself.
I have used the MX-1 a lot and find it to be easy to use and fast as hell for TDM,AFF vids.
When doing realtime work it helps to have done most editing with the record button on the camera first,(you can't film 5 min of upside down grass because you forgot to turn off the cam) So all you need to do is replay tape and add trans and music, takes only about
10 mins to do a TDM vid handed to the customer.
I have seen them go for all price ranges on e-bay.
Also you would need two TV's and a vcr, best to have two tv's as combos incase one vcr fails you got a back up already.
Good luck and talk to clint (skydive moab) about his set up.
Or PM me.

I have been using a Datavideo SE200 and before that a Panasonic W-AVE 5. These hooked to one cd player, one dvd recorder and one external monitor.

Works really well is relatively inexpensive and available on E-bay (but not now cos I am about to bid on one so hands off.........;))

If you need any specifics then mail me.
