Levin 0 #1 December 23, 2004 i have a cannon eos rebel x still camera. what is a good lite weight lens to get. i'd like to stay under $300. prferably closer to $200. also what is a good remote switch to use? i'd like a hand held push button type. i don't mind having to mess with running a cable under my jumpsuit and down my arm. thanks
vdschoor 0 #2 December 23, 2004 Personally, I would get the Canon EF 28mm f2.8 , but some people like the 24mm better. You have to be closer with that one of course to get same shot. Iwan
Levin 0 #3 December 23, 2004 thanks for the quick response which one of those lenses would match up best with a .42 lens on my pc5?
psw097 0 #4 December 23, 2004 Take the 35mm equivalent from the PC5 manual and multiply it times .42 - that will tell you what lens will match your video. Here, I'll help. The manual says 42mm * .42 = 17.64mm I use a Tamron 17-35/2.8-4. That way I can match any of my 3 wide angle converters with either my digital or analog still camera. The bonus is that its sharper, lighter, with better contrast that any of the primes I've owned. Its a lot more that 2 or 3 hundred though.
dragon2 2 #5 December 23, 2004 there's also a voigtlander/tamron/etc 3.5-4.5 17-35 mm, much cheaper ciel bleu, Saskia
psw097 0 #6 December 27, 2004 Isn't that a 19-35? If its the one I'm thinking about its not in the same class as the new DI series.
davelepka 4 #7 December 27, 2004 QuoteHere, I'll help. The manual says 42mm * .42 = 17.64mm If he is using an adapter ring of any kind, that will move the W/A lens further from the camera, increasing the mag factor some. Also, if he is zooming in a touch to cut out the corners, there's another point or two of increased mag factor. The 24mm will be closer to what he has, as well as lighter than a zoom. Some zoom lenses don't hold up well to the stress of skydiving. I've only seen cheapie zooms used, so maybe a higher quality one would hold up better. cheneyneel 0 #8 December 30, 2004 Dude Canon Makes a 15mm fixed lens that ROCKS for freeflying.. I am not sure about tandems but if youwant to get (SHots while you are in the formations) in freeflying you get everyone around with it, feet to head. You do have to be pretty close if shooting outside video and stills, but i like to be in the mix of things when taking shots anyways. it is a little over 300$ but man it is good.. semi-fisheye. You cant really notice though..
