Submerged my camera in sand...

Recommended Posts

OK, so I didnt have the best landing and now my sony PC100 is submerged in desert dust (Moab). I dont want to use it because the gears that open the tape tray grind now. Any idea how much it cost to get the camera cleaned professionally? Somebody mentioned Sony and they would do it cheap. Anybody know about this or have had the same experience?

I dunked my PC100 in sand once and it locked-up. I took it apart and cleaned it with compressed air, Q-tips and alcohol (for me and the camera). The error ended up being caused by a single grain of sand stuck between the capistan motor and position read head. Its worked ever since. Sony charges around $280, I think, but the PC100 is one of the easiest gizmos I've ever taken apart.
