douggie 0 #1 December 15, 2004 OK, so I didnt have the best landing and now my sony PC100 is submerged in desert dust (Moab). I dont want to use it because the gears that open the tape tray grind now. Any idea how much it cost to get the camera cleaned professionally? Somebody mentioned Sony and they would do it cheap. Anybody know about this or have had the same experience?
psw097 0 #2 December 15, 2004 I dunked my PC100 in sand once and it locked-up. I took it apart and cleaned it with compressed air, Q-tips and alcohol (for me and the camera). The error ended up being caused by a single grain of sand stuck between the capistan motor and position read head. Its worked ever since. Sony charges around $280, I think, but the PC100 is one of the easiest gizmos I've ever taken apart.

psw097 0 #4 December 16, 2004 As long as parts are not needed its an hour job. If parts are needed its better to send it to someone. Most parts cost more than the flat rate repair charge - they don't want to sell you parts so they jack the prices.
