riggerrob 643 #1 December 7, 2004 When visiting a DZ in Ontario, they showed me a CAN$300 Pioneer DVD burner. Sorry but I do not remember the model number. They said that it was only slightly slower than old-school, analog VHS recorders, needing an extra 4 minutes (at the end) to "compile" footage onto a disc. This winter our DZ plans to buy a DVD burner or two. Which DVD burner should we buy? And if it takes anything more than 4 extra minutes, forget it. jimoke 0 #2 December 7, 2004 I use a sony gx7.....I wish I had the sony gx4 which does all + and - formats. I burn RW+ I hope one format will eventually prevail. it takes about 2 min. to load the disc, and 2 min. to finalize after a 11min. tandem video. okeThe ground always, remembers where you are! nacmacfeegle 0 #3 December 8, 2004 I'm currently looking at replacing my 'old school' VCR with a new DVD recorder. I'm a big Sony fan, so have not really examined Panasonic, Phillips, etc yet. I'm currently pondering either the Sony RDR GX700, or the RDR-HX900, the 900 has a hard drive on board so you could have a stock leader saved there, and you would simply hose in the new footage, then do some basic assembly editing. If you are editing on say a PC or an analogue board, you may not need the hard drive, or even the firewire connectivity. Firewire (IEE1394, I-link, whetever) input is important to me personally, and the multi format capabilities of the Sony models appeal to me. Downside is you cant really vary the output quality to suit content duration, eg there are pre set quality modes, but nothing in between (standard setting allows 2 hours on a DVD, so if your movie is mlonger, you just have to take the next setting down, which seems daft to me!). And the editing capability seems pretty basic. Not really a deal breaker to me, as I intend upgrading my PC with a DVD burner soon too, so time shifting and archiving long movies should not be a huge deal. I'm going to buy a multi-region modified version. Of course, this entire setup is just to so the wee fella can have limitless access to Thomas the Tank Engine, Bob The Builder etc, nothing whatsoever to do with me wanting to archive my spaghetti western collection, or edit skydiving stuff.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. BETO74 0 #4 December 8, 2004 Where did you get it??? did you find it for less than $800?? Thankshttp://web.mac.com/ac057a/iWeb/AC057A/H0M3.html
AndyMan 7 #5 December 8, 2004 The video concession at Chicagoland uses Phillips DVD recorders... purchased on ebay for (+-)$300. They work well, but at this price it's cheap enough (and smart!) to have a hot backup. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
Pendejo 0 #6 December 8, 2004 We bought the Phillips DVD burner for our video concession about 4 months ago. It has worked great! The "Finalize" time is annoying... But for the $$$ I think its a great value. Pendejo Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the BEER!!

clint 1 #8 December 9, 2004 I posted the same thing about 8 months ago. Try a search on DVD recorders. Anyway I bought the Panasonic E60 for $500. I should've bought the E80 with the hard drive. IT's so worth it. Skydive New England has the E80 and they have a trailor and a few other advertising/entertaining videos. That is the only way to go. You sell the dz and they have a kick ass video. The downside to these models. It takes on average 12-13 minutes to finalize. And that is with a 8 min tandem video. If you put 55 minutes on the dvd, it only takes 2 mins to finalize. Figure that one out?? I just want a dvd recorder that only takes a few minutes. At CSC, the had the phillips and it only took 30 seconds to finalize. That's the one I want but it's not a good machine.> Breaks alot. See old posts 8 months ago. -Clint MacBeth Skydive Moab 435 259 JUMP M.O.A.B. The primary machine lasted all season, never needed the backup. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
