Jethers203 0 #1 April 16, 2003 I have just hit the 100 mark for the number of jumps on my Sabre 2 150. Thus far, I have had no problems at all and I just wanted to know what everyone thinks about the Sabre 2? Whether it is good or bad, comment on your experience with the Sabre 2. beowulf 1 #2 April 16, 2003 I have been very happy with my Sabre 2 150. It flies great. I get nice consistent openings and easy landings. In about 140 jumps I have never had line twists on it. Before this canopy I have had occaisonal minor line twists on student gear and rental gear.
eWave 0 #3 April 16, 2003 I have only jumped my Sabre2 135 12 times, so not much experience from it yet, but I can still say that openings have been incredible soft everytime! This thing really snivels... long Just gotta love it
slotperfect 7 #4 April 16, 2003 I have about 50 jumps on mine. At first I had some off-heading openings (diving turn). I changed my stow bands to regular ones for the locking stows and minis for the rest (825 microline) and now they are all on heading. I am a lot better about flying through my openings now, too. This is the first canopy I have had that required "flying the harness" during the opening. I occasionally get closed end cells during openings, but I pack it to open slowly so that doesn't bother me at all. Overall I LOVE the canopy; it's the best one I have ever jumped.Arrive Safely John
matttrudeau 0 #5 April 16, 2003 Just started jumping the Sabre2. So far, it has been the perfect canopy for me. Soft openings, touch down landings and if you want, you can really fly it hard. The best all around canopy hands down.
Jethers203 0 #6 April 16, 2003 I also get those closed end cells sometimes. It doesn't really bother me, but why does this happen? The openings aren't hard, but they still cave in. They always inflate after I unstow the breaks, so what's going on? John D-24352
skybytch 273 #7 April 16, 2003 QuoteIt doesn't really bother me, but why does this happen? What's your loading? At lighter loadings closed end cells on opening aren't unusual; I get 'em on my Spectre at about 1.0 every third jump or so, and I got 'em every jump on my old Fury (at about .75). I've always gotten them on very soft, slow openings though.
JFC3 0 #8 April 16, 2003 I've got about 100 on my 135 and I absolutely love it. I'm at about 1.35 and it's a forgiving, fun anf exciting canopy. With the added responsiveness I'm getting to really learn the dynamics of canopy flight and feel safe because of the designs nature. I would reccomend this canopy to family I love it so much. Just a fun canopy. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
CanuckInUSA 0 #9 April 16, 2003 I had about 90 jumps on my Sabre2 190. And I liked it so much I sold it and picked up a Sabre2 170 which I've now jumped over 30 times. It's the best canopy I've ever flown, but then again I don't have that many jumps. Now I'm not so sure if this will be my last Sabre2 (if I downsize once more I'm at the absolute max weight limit that PD recommends for the Sabre2). But I'll be jumping this canopy all summer long and for the next 100-200 jumps at the very least. I find the sniveling openings to be good, but I often find myself in a diving turn once the canopy fully opens and one has to wonder how much of that is my body position and how much is just a characteristic of the canopy. Also, the canopy has lots of lift, but I wish it could hold it's flare (ie: swoop) a tad longer than what it does. But some of this may also be myself not squeezing out every last ounce of lift. But I was very happy with a swoop landing I did the other day (it had to be something close to 100 feet, or maybe even more. I'm not the best judge of feet being the metric trained Canuck that I am). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
VectorBoy 0 #10 April 16, 2003 Openings almost as soft as a spectre, very good indeed. Nice glide and zippy enough in the turns that you won't get bored quick. Someone said very good all -around. I agree if you want a 9 cell. Glen
mujie96 0 #11 April 16, 2003 Loved it, loved it, loved it-am currently debating on whether to blow the extra couple hundred and get it brand new in custom colors. ITs easier to land and has beautiful openings (in comparison to my Sabre). I demoed a 120. Just keep swimming...just keep swimming....
ostrich 0 #12 April 16, 2003 Love it. I've got 500+ jumps onmy 170 with a 1.24 wingloadiing. It does everything I want.
Jethers203 0 #13 April 16, 2003 I doubt it is because of the loading. I am loading it 1.45:1. It may be becase of the way I roll the nose. What do you think? John D-24352
skybytch 273 #14 April 16, 2003 QuoteIt may be becase of the way I roll the nose. What do you think? My co-worker jumped one loaded about the same, did nothing to the nose (flake and let it hang), and got the same thing. I dunno. . .
JFC3 0 #15 April 16, 2003 I just got my first end cell closure this past weekend. It was definately the way it was packed because my packer had just returned from the winter and I'm a lazy bum. It didn't bother me as I used to get end cell closuer on my spectre all the time. A couple quick pumps of the back risers will inflate them. Did you notice if your slider came down slower? Mine did which I put in as all part and parcel of the same occurance. Wouldn't put too much worry into it unless your openings become really erratic. It's a great little canopy, eh? "Five days? BluDvn222 0 #16 April 16, 2003 I just changed from a Hornet 150 to a Sabre2 135 and so far it's awesome. The openings are so.....how can I put this.......comfortable.....and comforting. My Hornet was pretty good, but it's no nice to be able to look forward to the opening. Not to mention, I am really impressed with the power of the flare. I think I've found my soulmate, at least for a while. "How do you like my groin to your foot style?"
b1jercat 0 #17 April 17, 2003 4 jumps for me on a new saber2 190, In fact jumped my first pack job(beer) on this canopy. I load it at 1.35, as far as landings I stood 3 up 1 down. Landing in Oregon this time of year is like landing on a slip'n'slide. Had great openings even with what I suspect was self induced line twist on one occasion. I've yet to jump a canopy that was easier to rear riser turn, the saber2 is a blast. hope you guys enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine. blue skies jerry
slotperfect 7 #18 April 17, 2003 I have one, load it almost exactly the same, and love it. Lots of range and fantastic openings.Arrive Safely John
JayhawkJumper 0 #19 April 18, 2003 I own a safire (with the new tail mod), but I recently put 7 jumps on a Sabre2 of the same size. upside: Sabre2 has so much more flare than my safire, I don't know what to do it all. downside: The Sabre2 seems to open quite a bit harder. It will snivel and then slam open. I may also feel this way b/c my safire won't open in less than 1000 ft., no matter what you do. downside: I don't have the cash for a sabre2.... alan 1 #20 April 18, 2003 QuoteI may also feel this way b/c my safire won't open in less than 1000 ft., no matter what you do. That is highly unlikely but not impossible. If it is taking 1000' or more to open on every jump, you should contact the manufacturer as there is likely something wrong with it. It could also be in how you define "open". PC pitch until slider is 2/3 down is a common definition and that is usually in the 600' to 800' range by design. If you define it as from when you see your opening altitude on your alti (or hear it) until you get under canopy and check you alti, then 1000' is probably pretty close to right and nothing to worry about.alan
homer 0 #21 April 18, 2003 I was looking to purchase a Sabre 2 170 and decided not to after my demo experience. I demoed a Sabre 2 170 and every terminal opening I had resulted in an end cell collapsing after opening causing the canopy to dive and spin . I'm 170lbs. myself so its not underloaded. I tried flat pack, pro pack and even psyecho pack, they all ended up the same. Sub terminal openings were great with no problems. The canopy had less than 100 jumps on it so the lines should have been good. It flew strait so no lines were out of trim. Other than the openings I loved the canopy, it had a nice long soft opening and the responsiveness was great. I would still consider a sabre 2 in the future if I knew I wouldn't have this problem again. CSA #699 Muff #3804
