EDYDO 0 #1 November 7, 2004 I was using a DCR-IP5 with Movieshaker software and getting almost still camera quality from the video frame grabs. With my PC 109 and Pinnacle Studio 7, frame grabs are almost useless. The quality on the 109 seems to be there when viewed on the built in LCD, I just can't get what I see into my computer with the same quality. The IP5 is 340k pixels and the 109 is 690k pixels. In fact all specs say the 109 should produce better quality than the IP5. What software works well for frame grabs with DV? Ed
quade 4 #2 November 7, 2004 ALL DV has the exact same theoretical resolution; 720x480 and compressed at 5:1. The camera chips may have higher resolutions, but once it has been -recorded- to DV, that's the most you're ever going to get out of a single frame. If there is any motion in the frame (assuming standard def NTSC), you'll probably need to de-interlace the frame which will lower the vertical resolution by half. Doing frame grabs from video can be acceptable for small web images, but generally speaking you'll find that print results are -really- not good. That said, there is software that can deal with some of these issues IF your video isn't moving around too much. http://www.redhawkvision.com/ It is NOT a replacement for a good (or even mediocre) still camera, but is better than nothing when nothing else exists.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
ltdiver 3 #3 November 7, 2004 Hey! Where's your mug shot? All I see is a grab of Keith, Ken, Josh and Bob now. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

EDYDO 0 #5 November 7, 2004 Thanks for the info. That is a little pricey for a non-pro. I may try the demo and see how it goes. The movieshaker software came with the IP5. Attached is an image from the IP5 grab. I had to reduce it "a lot", so not sure this really shows the true image. We'll see when it uploads. Ed
