Tandem Video

Recommended Posts

I believe that is a question that would be best suited for the S & TA at your DZ. I know for Strong you just need the approval of the tandem instructor but at my DZ in order to shoot tandem video you have to qualify for the tandem rating (meaning 3 years in sport and 500 skydives) but you also have to have quite a few video jumps before they let you pratice near tandems.

A serch around this forum might be in order, or maybe doing a little research.

The IRM (which I have a copy of at home, but not here) has recomendations, as does RWS's rating program information.

More to the point, I wouldn't let you near me with less than 300 jumps and 100 camera jumps, with the equipment you intend to use, on your belly.

You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

RWS is 500 jumps, 100 camera jumps and something like 100 of those jumps to be in the past year.

If I remember correctly the USPA's recommendations are pretty similar to those of RWS.

here in new zealand you need 1000 jumps (or 750 if you have another rating) + 2 years in the sport to get your tandem rating.
filming tandems is how most people here get enough jumps to get a tandem rating!
numbers alone don't mean much, currency and skill should be the prerequisate, legally you need 200 jumps to jump with a tandem here! 3 years and 500jumps seems too much to me,
i have only been in the sport for 2.5 years and have over 1250 jumps:P 900 of those are tandem video/stills.
500 seems too little to do tandems.

More important is the question whether you are ready for it.
Videoing a tandem is like a tandemjump itself not just another jump.

Remember:
The only objective of a tandempassenger is to kill the tandemmaster.
The only purpose of the droque is to catch videomen.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit,
Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
