andy2 0 #1 April 13, 2003 how important is being one inch too small for a helmet? Is there anything you can do to take up some slack like you can with bike helmets, i.e. pads inside, tighter fit, etc. I'm a 22 inch wanting to buy a helmet designed for a 23 inch head. Thanks. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
DivinDon 0 #2 April 13, 2003 Andy I am really new to this sport so don't rely on this advice but I was just talking to an instructor yesterday about this and she said they sell padding for the helmets so that you can change to your specific feel.Like I said I am new so do not take this as sound advice just as hearsay. hookitt 1 #3 April 13, 2003 Get more specific with your questions. This goes for other equipment as well. Depending on the piece of equipment, What year <==not usually important What Make and Model What is the actual size (not a quess) Look around and don't buy the first thing that comes available. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... skybytch 273 #4 April 13, 2003 Buy a helmet that fits your head. Then you don't have to screw around with making it fit. You don't want to jump something that is that much too big. If you're looking at a Bonehead helmet you may be able to get a new liner set to change the helmet size. SkySystems (Factory Diver, Oxygn, Nvertigo, Hurricane) and Arrow Dynamics (Aviator, Hawkeye) helmets have fixed liners so you can't easily change sizes on them. arlo 0 #6 April 13, 2003 yeah, what Lisa said. :) another manufacturer besides Bonehead that has same shell/different liner size is parasport italia (fullface: Z-1, open-face: Evo). wouldn't it feel soooooo much better if your head fit snugly inside instead of smacking the walls? god I slay me... arlo
wmw999 2,583 #7 April 13, 2003 A helmet that is too big is better than useless, but definitely not as good as one that's the right size. It's entirely possible to get a concussion from a bang that doesn't do much with a properly-sized helmet. Been there, done that. Make sure it won't twist on your head, and that it feels snug but not tight in any direction you try with the neck/chin strap on. jerm 0 #10 April 14, 2003 ummmm.... my Nvertigo X liners come out and came with a padding kit.. Well, the top comes all the way out and the sides are fized to the fron but can be gotten behind (for hookin up audibles, routing cameye wires, etc..) Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time

SkySystems (Factory Diver, Oxygn, Nvertigo, Hurricane) and Arrow Dynamics (Aviator, Hawkeye) helmets have fixed liners so you can't easily change sizes on them. Arrow Dynamics will custom-build liners at no additional cost. Try on the model you like, then be specific about where it's too big (ie, too loose from side-to-side vs too tall for your head), and they'll build what you need. I did this and have been happy with the result; Frank at Square One was very helpful with the order. I'm sure there are other manufacturers that would do the same, if you're looking at another helmet design. Amy
