Sony’s new High Definition Video camcorder, the HDR-FX1, is a first in many ways. As the first 1080i entry into consumer HDV, the camcorder boasts a resolution of 1440x1080 at 60 interlaced fields per second.
The worlds first 250,000 pixel color viewfinder and 250,000 16:9 LCD show exactly what you are recording. There even is a 4x magnification on the LCD to help focus and judge the depth your focus field!
The imaging pickup is done by 3 CCDs, each one laid out with non-square pixels shaped and optimized for 16:9 widescreen modes (HDV and MiniDV).
All of this goes toward making a high resolution 1440x1080 pixel frame – actually 60 fields per second interlaced, commonly referred to as HDV 1080i...

...The tapes used are the same standard MiniDV ones. DV recording and playback can be performed or the HDV mode utilized which uses MPEG2 to greatly increase the effective bandwidth for video data to HD TV levels.
Sony expects to this revolutionary camcorder to go on sale before Christmas 2004.
