scotts 0 #1 April 10, 2003 I had sent a Swift Plus Reserve dom 10/90 to Para-Flite for testing/inspection ($25). And after getting it back, the report said simply, "Porosity 7.94 cfm. Passed." That's it. No comparison to any type of number or condition. What does that mean? I was expecting more detail in the report. I'll try to get in contact with then tomorrow, but in the mean time I thought I'd try here
darkwing 5 #3 April 11, 2003 I agree with the comments above and will add that the major thing to focus on is that they said it is fine. They are extremely conscientious, and their stamp of approval would be good enough for me. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
scotts 0 #4 April 11, 2003 ZigZag, thanks. The numbers you gave tell me something. I'm surprised Para-Flite didn't supply them. They did send a copy of pg 354 of 'The Parachute Manual' with the 2nd to last paragraph highlighted." Age does not weaken parachutes ......." But it didn't reference the porosity factor. Thanks again.
darkwing 5 #5 April 11, 2003 It isn't the age that decreases the porosity, it is the packing and jumping that does it. I'd bet that if your reserve was put in a sealed container when it was new it would test just fine, in both strength and porosity 50 years later. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
