skynole 0 #1 June 25, 2004 This past weekend I spoke with an experienced videographer who told me that he shoots all of his tandems in LP mode and has never had any issues or complaints of quaity from customers. I was surprised to hear that because I have been under the impression that you should shoot tandems in SP. He works at a high volume DZ and he says that most, if not all, the videographers at his DZ shoot in LP also. I did a search and found some people saying that the shoot tandems in LP and never had issues. I also found many responses of people saying don't use LP because of the potential problems that could arise...but I couldn't find any about actual problems working with LP. My question is have any of you had any issues using LP? Also, if you have had problems with LP, was it a new tape or one you were re-using? Please refrain from posting the potentials because I understand those. I know tapes are cheap, that's not really the issue. I'm just sick of the tapes piling up! If I could get 3-4 more tdm vids per tape that would be great. Thanks in advance for your responses.
EricTheRed 0 #2 June 25, 2004 With DV the real problem with shooting at slower tape speeds comes from increased risk of 'drop-outs' All tape flakes and deteriorates over time, the denser the data is packed, the more likely that your information will be lost when the chunk of magnetic coating falls off. In DV this shows up as a chunk of pixels that look 'stuck' or missing. If you don't archive, and you don't reuse tapes, LP will work OK. It's after you play the tape back a few times or after leaving it on a shelf for a few years that the differences will be most apparent.illegible usually
