tqsmile 0 #1 May 21, 2004 Need some advice and help. I am using a PC101 with a kenlock v-30 uv lense(is this lense really needed) with a stepup 30-30 to a Sony x0.6 wide conversion lense. I think it is the uv lense that gives me condensation in winter at altitude....... Is this setup okay for tandem video? My video is cool, but thought it might get better with other setups.... Also... i use this setup to film solo's, RW formations and skysurfing and the od student progression... is this okay? Lastly. Can someone explain to me the diffs between wide angle lense and a wide conversion lense. Does a .6 give you a wider pic than a .2 wide angle I have asked a couple of guy's locally but am still confused. TQ still learning
dragon2 2 #2 May 22, 2004 It's never a good idea to stack filters, so get rid of the uv filter if it is in between the camera and the wide angle lens. Some people use a skylight or uv filter for lens protection, so if it's on the outside that's a reason to keep it... It's way cheaper to replace that uv filter then the lens if it gets scratched. Don't know for sure the terms wide angle and wide angle conversion lens, I think a wide angle is what is used as an original lens (ie a 16mm lens on a still camera), the wide angle conversion lens would be a .3 add-on on a video camera. I think .6 should be less wide then say .45 but all this depends on which lens exactly and which camera you're using it on. Generally tho the smaller the number, the wider the angle. ciel bleu, Saskia
mr2mk1g 10 #3 May 22, 2004 AFAIK everything Dragon02 has said is right, but bear in mind that the Sony 0.6 is much wider than an 0.6 made by most other brands. I've found it to be about as wide as a 0.45 by many other manufacturers. Go figure. The numbers are good generalisations but there are some surprises in stall if you rely on them alone. piisfish 140 #4 May 23, 2004 the guys from waycool have really good info, just send them a mail, and order a blueye lens there ;-) on my pc8 I use a sony 0.6 lens, and works great for tandems. You can go close and have the pilot and the passenger in the screen, and if you are not THATR close, you'll still have them small, but not tiny. Maybe with a wider angle you will not be "allowed" to fly too far...scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

WayCool 0 #6 May 24, 2004 This might help. Wide angle conversion lens usually refers do a lens element/s that is in addition to an existing lens and it is difficult to get a very accurate figure. The figure(0.6) refers to the multiplication factor which the conversion lens will apply to the focal length of the system. Figures less than 1 will decrease the focal length(wider) and greater than 1 will increase it(zoom). Camera lenses for SLR cameras are rated in millimetres and this is the focal length. The reason is that this is the entire lens for the camera and not an add on conversion lens. These converters are available for SLRs but usually are x2 converters for increased zoom. riggerrob 643 #7 May 25, 2004 I have a 0.5 on the old SONY that I use for outside video. Over the past year I have been using a Diamond 0.3 wide-angle lens for hand-mounted video of my tandem students. Yesterday I tried the latest Diamond 0.2 low-profile, wide-angle lens on three dives. Great resolution, insignificant distortion and a tiny profile. Talk about wide-angle! You can see the student's knees! Colin Sutherland was disappointed that the 0.2 did not distort the image around the edges, like a fish eye lens. Maybe Colin wanted to get all "artistic" or something ... hmmmm? Too bad this Diamond 0.3 was only a prototype and Max Cohn told us to wait another month or two for production. Dang! I want one!
jose 0 #8 May 26, 2004 Damn you Rob, now the value of my .3 is down on ebay! Yeah, thats a nice lens huh. I'll be gettin one soon myself so I can film your floundering one armed students this summer. Dont worry about what Colin says people, hes totally gay. And he cant fly on his head. But at least he was there on Sunday this year!
