just curious on how many times people tape over the footage they have....or re-use the tapes.

I keep everything that I tape. And I've got a huge library by now. You never know when a tandem student will contact you years later because his/her significant other used the first jump video to tape the latest episode of "Friends", or whatever.

And some day I'll do a 10 year retrospective, which would give a completely different feel to a year end video.

I agree with Mike...I keep EVERYTHING. Tapes are dirt cheap and are a great medium to archive all your footage on. I never record over anything on purpose! :)

I never reuse miniDV tapes. I have found that trying to re-record on a used tape can a "venetian blind" effect. That is, the old scene shows thru the newly recorded material in alternating horizontal bands. That was with a Sony PC-1 so perhaps the newer models are better about this but I'm not willing to take the risk. Besides, this way you have an archive of everything you've video'd

I keep em all.
Start and End date for the tape discription - that way if anyone ever wants anything, I can look it up by date.

I burn all my footage to DVD that I want to keep, including finshed student videos.
