blazetailman 0 #2 May 4, 2004 Ok, a quick still imaging primer. on screen display is about pixels. right now we won't worry about file file size. And since we are talking about on screen display we are dealing with a set resolution of 72ppi. Just remeber this. This is the resolution of monitors. A little more backround on monitors. the average 15 in monitor is 800 pixels wide by 600 pixels tall. with 17 in monitors with desktop resolutions around 1280 x1024 pixels or more. My laptop for example is set at 1400 x 1050. We will come back to this later. So when you are setting up pics for the web you are more concerned with raw pixels. "Pixel Dimension" in your case 65 x75 . There is a setting on the scanner or your imaging software should be 72dpi. If you set it more there will be more pixels in the file making a lrger file size. The more pixels the larger the file size. So what you need to look for in the imaging software is a "save for web" function or "Image size" as in Photoshop. change your raw pixel demensions to 65x75 and save it as a jpg. there are other methods you can do to accomplish the same goal eg. using the cropping tool set to 65 x 75. File size is then adjusted during the saving part to a jpg. The averae photo can be compressed to 50% quality with little dithering. When you are scanning the picture you can set the scanner to 72dpi to capture it as a smaller file, as long as you crop the picture to the exact framing you want to post to the web or email. Now I covered a bit of info in a pretty short amount of time. If you need more help let me know. I can post more of tutorial. If you want email me the file and I can size it down for you. peter@petergallistudios.comwww.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
