skyfly 0 #1 May 3, 2004 Hi, just got the cameye2, and just wondered how you guys mount the switch on the helmet ? gaffer tape ? velcro? glue (which kind)? and also where did you position the switch? with the given length of wire, I find I'm limited to position the switch in certain areas. and last - did you place the indicator light on the camcorder side (I'm side mounted), or the opposing side of the helmet (in fear of the light being visible in the video)? Thank you all, see you in the sky.Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
wingnut 0 #2 May 3, 2004 i used silicone caulk to afix mine but really didn't even need that as i have mine installed to run the wires between the helmet and padding so it kept the switch just fine... my camera is side mounted and the indicator light is on my ringsight on the right side of my helmet... plenty of cord for that! as for switch placment.. you should have enough cord there to put i prety much anywhere you want withing relitive distanmce depending on your routing of the cord to the camera and helmet... my switch is about 3 inches above my right eye. i can hit it while holding on to the floater bar of our plane if i somehow forgetto turn on the camera beforei climb out or when i'm under canopy i can hit it with my hands in my toggles by just doing a mini flare... do the same thing as i come in for final i justturn it back on to catch mylanding uz i know the first timei don't record it while wearing my camera it's gona be a doozie and i'll want it later to show all the rolling and flipping.....lol... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"
docjohn 0 #3 May 3, 2004 Here's a way to internally mount your CamEye. You have to tear open your CamEye to do this. One downside, feet can turn it off in freefall during donuts. See photos Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video
WayCool 0 #4 May 3, 2004 If you want the neatest install it takes some commitment but you can take a hole saw or drill bit and drill a hole in your helmet and mount the cam eye body inside the helmet under the liner. This will give you an almost perfectly flush button on the outside of the helmet and looks really pro! Make sure you drill the hole about 1mm smaller than the smaller round protrusion of the switch because it is made of rubber and you can push it into the hole. Use some heat glue on the inside to glue the body of to the helmet shell (this type of glue is easily removable if necessary. You'll have to then route the lanc cable to the lanc plug point and tape or heat glue the indicator to your ring site. It won't affect your footage. If you are interested I'll post a few pictures of the cam eye body mount later. "Edit" similar to the post above but with a bigger hole and no need to disassemble the Cam eye Stay Cool http://www.waycool.com.au
jimmytavino 16 #5 May 3, 2004 In that case you can keep the cover on the red switch ( so it doesn't inadvertantly click ) and stow it securely inside the helmet and under the padding... I operate 2 vids from the cameras themselves,,and just bypass the Cam Eye switch(es)..
skyfly 0 #6 May 4, 2004 thanx for the suggestion, I was actually thinking about doing something like that, Id rather keep the components complete, and not take them apart, the thing is - I'd also like keep the helmet intact, and am a bit warry of drilling this big of a hole into it (saweet new helmet). but I'd really like to see what if could end up looking like, cause it IS the best solution in terms of no loose wires on the outside of the helmet which is what I'm trying to get.Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! OmriMon 0 #7 May 4, 2004 I have my cameye installed on the inside of my optik. I drilled a hole for the button on the front right side of the helmet, it is held in with hot glue. i drilled another hole just behind the L bracket for the plug and used a rubber washer to acheive a clean look. the eye piece is mounted on the ring sight with heat shrink tubing. all the wiring inside the helmet is held in by hot glue and gaffers tape. skyfly 0 #8 May 5, 2004 NICE , I like your setup, and I think I will end up drilling the helmet to mount the switch on the inside, I also really liked the rubber washer idea. NICE !Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
WayCool 0 #9 May 5, 2004 Here's a couple of Photos. The thing I liked about the install when I built this setup was that I could almost completely inclose my PC110. I used to jump in the tropics where rain and water vapour is more of an issue. Stay Cool http://www.waycool.com.au
idrankwhat 0 #10 October 28, 2005 Thanks for the idea! I drilled a 5/8" hole with a paddle bit (spade bit, whatever it's called), sanded out the edges of the hole and popped the cameye button through from the inside out. The fit is so perfect that I didn't bother with the glue. I have an NvertigoX helmet and I placed it in the upper left corner of the dual audible port cut out. That should hopefully give it good protection from the right riser. Now, if the clouds will just clear out I can take it for a test dive today.
