fundgh 0 #1 April 30, 2004 In building an L-Bracket, what is the best solution to deal with the potential interference with the zoom toggle, and the little hand strap bracket that sticks out farther than any other part of the camera? I have heard that permanently removing the hand strap voids the warranty...True or false?...FUN FOR ALL!
AggieDave 6 #2 April 30, 2004 I used the Bonehead D-box, but some stuff still applies here. I didn't remove the handstrap bracket, I just added padding to help give support to that side of the camera. Same with the buttons on that side of the camera (most annoying being the Nightshot and zoom). As for the warranty, I have no clue. Some other folks probably have better solutions then what I did, but maybe my personal experience can help you with your setup. Good luck!--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
docjohn 0 #3 May 1, 2004 I actually took a dremmel tool to my brand new PC-105 to remove the strap bracket. I had no choice. It was the only way it would fit in my SideWinder helmet. I'm sure my warranty is toast. Hey, you gotta live dangerously! Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video
Jethers203 0 #4 May 1, 2004 I removed the hand strap bracket as well. Those Dremmel tools are the shit. Anyway, I use a D-Box so I can't tell you much about an L bracket, but I recomend you get a Camera condom. That will help to prevent your $900 investment from a lot of hurt. Just my opinion. AndyMan 7 #5 May 1, 2004 You needed a dremel to remove the hand strap? I haven't seen a 105 up close, but on my PC120, it was just 3 screws I could access from inside the tape compartment... For the record, while the MACK waranty sucks for many other reasons, they did not take issue with my removed hand-strap. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. AggieDave 6 #6 May 1, 2004 On the PC-105 you have to either take 1/2 the camera apart to remove only part of the bracket, or you can cut it off. So, cutting it off is really the best solution for removal.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
docjohn 0 #7 May 1, 2004 Check out the attached photos. The mounting bracket is molded in to the body of the 105. Believe me, it hurt to deface a brand spanking new PC105 but the bracket stuck out about 1/4 inch. No way to get it in my Sidewinder Helmet. If you remove the two screws shown, the metal brackets are still unable to be removed. The sacrifices we make to make skydiving videos. riggerrob 643 #8 May 2, 2004 Is it possible to grind/drill a hole in your L-bracket to accommodate the offending strap bracket?
fundgh 0 #9 May 3, 2004 Anything is possible. I can do this, and it might even help with stability....FUN FOR ALL!
Vertifly 0 #10 May 4, 2004 QuoteIs it possible to grind/drill a hole in your L-bracket to accommodate the offending strap bracket? I did this with no problems. AND YES, it does help with the stability of the camera on your head. Just mark where it would be and drill a few holes to line it up. Very easy thing to do.
