RozeAY 0 #4 April 2, 2003 That rig is on display at Sunpath in ZHills in the lobby. Nobody jumps it.
AggieDave 6 #5 April 2, 2003 QuoteNobody jumps it. That sucks, man, that'd be a fun rig to have, even though the lack of UV protection for the canopies sucks and I'm betting that plastic isn't too strong when it comes to length of life.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." AggieDave 6 #7 April 2, 2003 D'oh! That would be an interesting incident report... "jumper, although activating main and reserve canopy, had a total malfunction due to the flaps being glued together...jumpers must remember that no matter what the jump numbers, all flaps should be closed in the traditional fasion with closing loops and pins, not with crazy glue."--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." councilman24 37 #8 April 2, 2003 Dan T. has made a couple of Softie pilot rigs like that over the years for display. Think I say the first one about 1993, and I think it was older than that.I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

SkySlut 0 #10 April 2, 2003 It must have been made a while ago...I am guessing because the reserve flap doesnt have the tuck in part like the newer Javs do. Pretty funky.
nacmacfeegle 0 #11 April 3, 2003 That rig (the union jack flag rig) was made for the British 100 way record in '99. It was flown in the formation by the chairman of the BPA Chris Allen. Nice eh? I've also seen some nice promo shots of it by Sven Zimmerman, and Knut Krecker, who were working with the rig manufacturer Chris Thomas of Thomas sports Equipment. Its a Teardrop Superfly. more pics of this rig in flight here.... http://www.svenz.com/PhotoGallery/with/ByKnut/BritRigKnut/BritRig.htm Endless trivia R us! Of course, it may have been copied since then... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. ManBird 0 #12 April 3, 2003 Never really took a look at the Superfly. Excellent riser coverage. And the BOC looks pretty flat... also a plus. I like the way the main closes (like a Wings), though the little stitched-on pocket for the pin cover doesn't look too permanent. And pop-tops are a little scary. I have enemies."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
nacmacfeegle 0 #13 April 3, 2003 They work fine, are relatively cheap, quick delivery, and are justifiably quite popular over here in the UK. A nice choice of rig, I have an old two pin classic as a crew rig that is still going strong.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Sorry to steal your thunder, but that particular Union Flag container (it's only a Union Jack when it is flown from the Jack Staff on a sea going vessel), was custom made for a chap called Tony Goodman. Tony is the Team Leader of the Royal Artillery Parachute Display Team http:/www.skydivegunners.co.uk, and also has a Union Flag Stilleto 120 inside it. This is the second such container TSE have made, they also built a Tartan one which was displayed at the BPA AGM. The rig can currently be seen at Perris where the Team are conducting their annual training camp. BuzzIt's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice. Okay then, there are at least two of them, I have video of an identical rig from Langar, Brit100 - june 99, (there are about 9 hours of footage, so please don't make me go and find it ) and I was on the same load (Langar boogie '99) with Sven and Knut when they were making those photos I linked to, I even have a dub of Knut's footage somewhere. TSE have been using it as an advert for a couple of years now, check the back issues of your BPA mag. Apologies over the Union Jack/Union Flag thing. Hmm Tartan you say...now I am interested!.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Yep there is two of them, the original which was built for the Brit 100 (I believe) and which Tim Porter currently jumps. The second, which is the one in the picture that was posted above, belongs to and is being warn in the pic by my best mate Tony Goodman. Ill see if I can find a pic of the Tartan rig, it was quiet sweet, even if I say so myself. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice. BBKid 0 #17 April 4, 2003 QuoteSorry to steal your thunder, but that particular Union Flag container (it's only a Union Jack when it is flown from the Jack Staff on a sea going vessel) I was always raised to believe that as well as being a maritiime flag, the Union Jack also refers to the falg when it is flown above a building in which the monarch is in residence, hence the Union Jack flying above Buck. House. I find it hard to believe that I've made this up, but it could be one of thise urban legends... Nick --------------------------- "I've pierced my foot on a spike!!!" Harksaw 0 #18 April 4, 2003 I saw that when i toured Sunpath a couple weeks ago. According to the tour guide, its definitely not jumpable, but i'm not sure whether its because of the plastic material or the glued flaps __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks.
