scottbre 0 #1 March 18, 2004 Has anyone else had problems with capturing and exporting to and from a computer with the PC105? I've managed to get lucky and have premiere recognize it a couple times and capture, but that is the exception, not the norm. Usually it just says it can't find the device. And I have never been able to export stuff back to tape. I've tried this in Ulead video studio with the same results so I know it's not a problem with premiere. Has anyone figured out how to deal with (fix) this? I just bought a firewire card so that I could move video to and from my pc105 and now it won't even work. Just a little frustrating. indyz 1 #2 March 18, 2004 I've had no problems with Windows Movie Maker (either version). Capture works fine for me in Video Studio 7, but laying back down to tape is a little problematic. Some firewire cards just aren't compatible with certain motherboards. For example, my KT7A-based computer doesn't work very well with Texas Instruments firewire chipsets, but works like a champ with VIA chips. I'd find out what chipset your firewire card is based on and try swapping it for one from a different manufacturer.
scottbre 0 #3 March 18, 2004 What version of windows are you using? I'm using 2000. I wonder if that has any effect on what's happening (or not happening). I just spent 50 bucks on the firewire card that I have now, I can't keep throwing money at more cards because maybe they aren't compatible. My computer recognizes the firewire card and there are no conflicts, it just does want to recognize my camera when it's connected. "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" indyz 1 #4 March 18, 2004 I tried both 2000 and XP with the TI card. It was sometimes showing a conflict in the Devices screen. Is it possible to try a different cable or a different camera?
scottbre 0 #5 March 19, 2004 Ok, I can reliably capture video now. But I when I open the AVI to edit it afterwards, it goes black and all I hear is sound when I try to play it in premiere or ulead video studio. And I still can't export back to tape. I have 256mb of RAM, 40GB of scratchdisk space, and a PIII 660mhz processor. Maybe I need more RAM? "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" indyz 1 #6 March 19, 2004 Do you render to DV before exporting? If so, does the rendered video play back correctly if you play back just to the screen? If that works, you probably have enough memory and processing power to export to tape. I personally couldn't make Video Studio export to my PC105 without frequent dropout (1.2Ghz Athlon, 1 GB RAM), so I've started rendering to DV in Video Studio, then using Windows Movie Maker 2 to export to the camera. docjohn 0 #7 March 20, 2004 The PC105 exports and imports well so the problem must be in your system. 600mz is pretty slow for AVI capture although it is possible. I use XP, Adobe Premiere 6.0 (which is old obviously) but I'm using a 2.6 ghz processor. I can capture fine and export back to the PC105 with no problem. Card wise I'm using a Pinnacle DV-500 (oldie but goodie). So keep your camera but work on upgrading your computer. scottbre 0 #8 March 23, 2004 Yea, I've pretty much decided that the problem is some combination of not enough RAM and a 4 year-old processor. Since the two things I can't do with my computer are both things that require a fair amount of memory and processing power. Guess I'll just have to learn how to use the editing tools built into the camera for now. "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project
nacmacfeegle 0 #9 March 23, 2004 <-------Still got an old PII which drives a setup with a DV300, DC30+ (both precede your modern DV500 by a long way!), 3x 8.4gig drives, and about 128 meg ram, along with Premiere 6 satisfactorily.Render times are long, but thats why god gave us cold beer. Its still a great dice and splice machine. Anything render heavy I put it on my laptop which is a PIII 700, and still drink the frosty ones, just less of them.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
