motherhucker 0 #1 March 10, 2004 For a [non-jumping] application that needs an ultra long lasting battery (time lapse)-- Does anyone know what the biggest is? cheers.
quade 4 #2 March 10, 2004 You could always hook up a car battery and a power inverter, then onto the camera charger. What -are- you planning on doing?quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Deuce 1 #3 March 11, 2004 The 91. It's huge, but has great longevity. I use it on the ground.
motherhucker 0 #4 March 11, 2004 remote time lapse in a wilderness/backcountry environment--let's just say I'm "backpacking." Trying to record Wx patterns and hopefully some star movement. I was hoping there was something bigger than the 91. Oh well...
quade 4 #5 March 11, 2004 You're not going to get much in the way of stars out of any of the Sony miniDV cameras -- even with NightShot. Based -specifically- on what you've said you're trying to do, I'd take my digital camera, Canon D60, and the Canon TC-80N3. They call it a "timer remote control" but I think most time lapse photographers would call it an intervalometer (which is probably the word you were looking for the other day). If you don't own this kind of stuff, you can -easily- rent it. The other advantage of the digital still is that you can do long exposures for the night time lapse and really bring out the stars. You could even do this just using the program setting fo the camera and the exposure would track to sunrise. You'd notice a little pumping of the light levels, but you'll get that on video as well. For clouds, it's really best to NOT use the auto exposure settings. Examples at http://homepage.mac.com/pquade/iMovieTheater11.html If you look -very- closely you might get a kick out of the very last example. One final note -- you could always just invite someone along that has done this sort of thing before and that would leave you to concentrate on "backpacking".quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

The ground looks a little too green, but the hills resemble the Dolly's, is it just south of Perris? Don't Confuse Me With My Own Words
