AndyMan 7 #1 March 10, 2004 Has anyone got a suggestion of how to get an .mp4 file to transfer over firewire? I can play the file in Windows Media player and the Quciktime player, but I can not get the file to open in Premiere 6.5. Premiere says "unknown file type". I'm trying to get the file to transfer to my camera, so I can then transfer it onto VHS. Suggestions? _A__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. quade 4 #2 March 10, 2004 Do you have QuickTime Pro? It's a $29 upgrade to the basic QuickTime that allows for format conversion.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
FrancoR 0 #3 March 10, 2004 Your camera only understands a DV format video throught firewire. Premiere only understands certain file and codec types, i don't think mp4 is one of them. Premiere will read AVI files, but not all of them because AVI files use different codecs. What you need to do is convert the file to AVI and a codec that premiere can read, preferably DV. Try Stoik video encoder (search, i don't know where i got it from) and encode to a standard codec like MJPEG, DivX, or even better to a lossles codec like Huffyuv. Huffyuv will create a very big file though. Take that file to premiere and export via firewire. If it does not cost anything you are the product. AndyMan 7 #4 March 12, 2004 The best I could find was Stoik video convertor, but it wouldn't read the file. I couldn't find anything called Stoik video encoder... Also, I can't even seem to get on Apple's quicktime site. Anyone else got suggestions? _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
AndyMan 7 #5 March 12, 2004 Well, that was ugly... I used Microsoft Media Encoder to make it a .wmv, then I used Soik Video Converter to turn it into a .avi. Then I used Premiere to firewire it to my pc120. It looks like crap, but it's viewable. Paul and Frank, thanks for the tips. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
