LouDiamond 1 #1 February 18, 2004 I am looking for a way to edit a MP3 file so that I have a shorter version.I don't need to be able to do complicated mixes and what not. I just need to chop a file cleanly in half. There are a boat load of programs out there, any recommendations on what programs work best?"It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
AlvaroCarvalho 0 #2 February 19, 2004 Hello! I use Nero Wave Editor (comes with Nero5 package)...you can fade out the track whenever you want. The only problem i found so far is that you have to work with the file as .wav (35+ MB) and then save it as MP3. Blue skies! Hey...ho...let's go! freeflir29 0 #3 February 19, 2004 Premiere 6.0 has a nice razor tool but I think you would have to turn it into a .WAV and then back to an MP3 when you were done. It's possible though.

AlvaroCarvalho 0 #5 February 19, 2004 Lou...what program do you use to edit your videos? I use Pinnacle StudioDV 8 and you can drag and drop MP3 files. Once the MP3 is on the sound layer, you can work on the volume level (to fade out) and cut whenever you want. Hey...ho...let's go!
LouDiamond 1 #6 February 19, 2004 I use a Screen Play NLE stand alone editor by Applied Magic. I have NERO and just found the wave editor, I never noticed it since I hardly ever use NERO. I edited my audio clip rather quickly and quite nicely if I may say so. Just a simple chop with a fade out on the end and done."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
AggieDave 6 #7 February 19, 2004 Converted to Wav, I use a program called "Cool Edit Pro." Its shareware, but it'll do more then programs I've seen that cost a couple hundred bucks.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." AndyMan 7 #8 February 19, 2004 Premiere has some good basic editing tools for .mp3's. You can chop a file, do fades, even speaker balance - left/right and 5.1 There's no reason you need to convert to .wav, or any silliness like that. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. jmfreefly 0 #9 February 19, 2004 Every NLE I have used has this ability in the timeline.. My guess is that yours does also. For more complex stuff I use SoundForge (like stretching audio or similar effects). j
Chivo 0 #10 February 19, 2004 Yup, CoolEdit is awesome, you can also install an mp3 plug-in so you can work with mp3 files instead of wav. ~Chivo

I've had to write to CD and then put it in. What am I doing wrong? I feel like such an idiot. I knew it could be done but couldn't figure it out. AlvaroCarvalho 0 #14 February 24, 2004 Hello all! Sorry for the delay on replying... StudioDV 8 has 5 layers (video & audio, title/graphics, BGM and sound effects). After getting the video through firewire the first two will be filled. Then you have to set the source folder for your BGM (your MP3 folder)...then drag the file to the layer and you're set to work on it the same way you do with the audio file (from the video). Blue skies! Hey...ho...let's go!
AlvaroCarvalho 0 #15 February 24, 2004 Me again... To set the source: click on the folder icon and point it to your MP3 folder. After that, all your MP3 files will be displayed as icons. Drag one to the BGM layer and work on it. Blue skies! Hey...ho...let's go!
