kitof1976 0 #1 January 29, 2004 I was looking around to buy a video camera to jump with and I came across this... Now I am not looking for a workhorse of a camera or anything. I am just looking to buy a camera to take on fun jumps so that I can film some friends and have fun with it. I don't plan on making grand films/editing or doing tandem videos anytime soon... So do you think this could be an acceptable alternative to a Sony PC or the more expensive cams? These Mustek cameras are dirt cheap... like this one is about 150 bucks and ridiculously tiny and light! I would feel pretty comfortable strapping something that tiny to my helmet... Any suggestions? Does someone has one? "We see the world just the way we are...
mwabd1 0 #2 January 29, 2004 Well, remember that you get what you pay for. If you add $300 to the price of that you can get a sony-trv D8, the p.c.'s are more but worth the money.
quade 4 #3 January 29, 2004 Yeah, but you might want to take a look at the spec. sheet a little more closely. Down load it and take a close look at page 2. At VGA resolution (640x480) it only shoots at MOST 10 frames per second, which is abut 1/3 f normal video. In other words, it's always going to look like you have some sort of video effect running and will never look smooth. Also, the lens isn't very wide and I can't figure out if you could attach a wide angle lens to it. It's about the equivilent of a 43mm lens on a 35mm film camera. That's pretty narrow for most stuff. I'd give this one a skip.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
riggerrob 643 #4 February 1, 2004 We have been playing with a Mustek DV 2000 for the last 6 months. I even strapped it to my hand for a tandem jump. The Musteck is so much smaller than a SONY that I had to sew up a new hand-mount. Hee! Hee! Two major limits to using it for "paid" videos of tandem students: poor resolution (similar to a web-cam) and no graceful way to attach a wide-angle lens. Reviewers have two standard responses. The first group think it is a great value! (My attitude.) The second group whine loudly that it is not as good as a SONY costing $1,000 more. Come on, you get what you pay for. If all you want to do is video your friends getting silly, then go nuts with a Mustek.

Just remember that the quality of your product is what is remembered by those who view it later...and is thought to be the 'only' thing you do. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
