cpoxon 0 #1 January 9, 2004 I treated myself to a new camera on a recent trip, a DCR-PC330. I haven't had the opportunity to jump it yet and I need to remove the flip down handle from the side so I can fit it into my helmet (since it is the exact same size (minus some annoying bulges) as my PC110). On the PC110, the handle just screwed off and the excess could be tucked away without cutting it from the casing. However, with the PC330 it doesn't appear that you can unscrew it, it's a smooth cap, and it doesn't seem to be a false one that can be removed to reveal a screw underneath, as far as I can tell. I'm worried I'll need to unscrew the exterior panel to be able to remove it which would be a pain (although at least the MemoryStick isn't located in it anymore like the PC110 - I think that's the annoying bulge). Anybody had any experience of removing the handle? Why would Sony want to prevent you from removing it?Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
mr2mk1g 10 #2 January 9, 2004 Have you looked at it from inside the take cover? Some models for example the webbing can be unclipped from inside. Maybe the handle is the same and you can get at its workings from inside the cover. (or try contacting sony). (don't know - have not seen - a guess based on my cam). cpoxon 0 #3 January 18, 2004 Sony recommended contacting an authorised repair center to do it! But you were right, it was accessible from inside. I was wary about taking the cover off as it looked like a lot of intricate screws, but as it was it only required the removal of 2 screws from directly behind the handle (thanks Pete!). jmfreefly 0 #4 January 20, 2004 Yeah, most of the handles are fairly easy to remove, and usually only involve removing the door cover. I have done this on 100's, 120's 9's, 105's.. Just so you know, you will have to put the handle back on for most places to service it. I just got a quote from MACK camera for a PC100 (under their 5 year warranty) to fix the tape loading mechanism. They wanted to charge me several hundred dollars to put all the handles and doors that I took off. I said "Just don't fix that then", and they said "we can't do that -- it has to be in perfect working order when we send it back". That is a bunch of baloney, but I have no way to argue. Sony also put the handles back on twice, once under their 'fix it for one price'-deal, and the other for external damage (ripped off lens from a high speed freefly accident). In the second, I think they did charge me for them also. Just an FYI j
AndyMan 7 #5 January 20, 2004 First, these pics for the 330 are exactly the same as my 120. Removing that half of the handle is easy, it only involves two small screws inside the door. Seoncdly, While MACK waranty service sucks in general, and I would not recomend them.... I did not have any problems related to the hand strap when I sent in my PC120. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
