Final Cut: Pro vs. Express v2?

Recommended Posts

Looking at the feature list, it looks like if I'm only going to be working with DV for the foreseeable future, FCEv2 is going to do it for me very nicely, and I don't need to spend the extra money on FCP.

Is there anything you wiser folks can think of that I'd really need in the Pro version that would justify spending the extra money for??

TIA

There are certain features, batch digitize among them, that are only supported in FCP.

Depending on your level of digitzing experience, work load and sophistication, this may be reason enough.

However, for the average person moving up from iMovie, FCE will be more than adequate for most skydiving videos.

Bear in mind that FCE2 requires at least a G4 processor.

Yeah, that's the sticking point that kept me from doing an immediate upgrade. FCEv2 looks totally cool, but right now I don't have the processor power to run it.

Thanks for the advice, all. I think I'll give FCEv2 a try... Since I'm lucky enough to have a G4 to use it with. :-)

FYI, G4 upgrade cards are getting fairly cheap for most of the older powermac platforms, I've seen them as low as $150ish...

The one thing that i really liked when i got FCP3 and now 4 was the ability to keyframe effects in the timeline some thing i could not do with Express also if you get FCP4 you get Live Type, Compressor, Soundtrack and Cinema Tools as part of the package. there are allot of things that FCP can do that Express can't do. but when it comes right down to it Express is more than the casual editor needs and FCP is overkill for most people.
