bodypilot90 0 #1 January 1, 2004 which is better? I'm talking about issues like audio sync and ease of use. I'm not making star wars just burning some home videos and a skydive or two from time to time.

skyfly 0 #3 January 1, 2004 unfortunately, the firewire products in that range is (From what I understand from his question) exacly what he is NOT looking for (although- yeah - firewire IS the way to go if you do it proffesionally). The prices and the range of products for the usb2 protocol is wider today then the firewire products. most Firewire products can only be found at speciallity stores, whereas the usb2 products can be found at any FRYS, BestBuy, etc. You will find that the USB2 products would suit you better because they are plug-and-play, you dont need to go to the back of the computer everytime you want to connect your VHS to the computer to capture somthing. and also you'll be able to use it on ANY computer with USB2, fast and simple. hope this helpsBe Simple, Be Creative, Bee! PhreeZone 20 #4 January 1, 2004 Problem one with USB2... no camera currently uses it as its video transport. You are limited to either Firewire or analog connections for video. Firewire is really the only choice when it comes down to it. Toss in a Firewire card, put a cable running from the card to the camera... and it will detect everything when you turn the camera on and its off and ready to capture about 15 seconds later. Firewire is at Bestbuy, Circuit City and even Walmart. I'm not sure but I don't think Walmart is a speciality store Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
skyfly 0 #5 January 1, 2004 The best answers in the world NOT those containing the best thechniques available in the market - the best answers are those addressing the questions. that said - from the original post - I got the impression that we're not talking about a DV camera here - but VHS tapes (yeah - those ANALOG things). taking that in mind, and what's available out there - I just thought that USB2 would fit his situation the best. YES Phreezone - I do recomment everyone to have a firewire card in the machine, its a necessity when you work with it. but is this guy working with it ?Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon. PhreeZone 20 #6 January 1, 2004 You still need an interface to get from the VHS to the USB2. Currently the Dazzle 150 is the cheapest thing that does Analog to USB2 and its over 150. Going for something like an ATI All-in-wonder video card with capture is going to be slightly cheaper. Another option is to use the firewire, but copy from the VHS back to the DV tape and then import to the PC. But both are going to look horrible if you try and put them on something like DVD. Generation loss will appear very clearly.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Ha, that is so true when you compare it to all digital. it's a world of give and take, the question remains - what do you wanna get? ... There are of course USB1.1 posibilities out there, but again, it's reduction in quality. I guess he'll have to do the trial-and-err kinda thing to see if the different options fit his budget and goals.Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
