skychic68 0 #1 November 3, 2003 So, what's the verdict??? If anyone has tried out this new little toy, please share your thoughts. Better or equivalent to our old mini DV cassette models? I'm thinking the quality of DVD over cassette must be significant. Well, let us know Que sera sera
dragon2 2 #2 November 3, 2003 Dunno about the quality. But from a jumper's point of view, I doubt this will work. Any burner must be held somewhat still to work right. You can't, in freefall ciel bleu, Saskia
quade 4 #3 November 3, 2003 QuoteI'm thinking the quality of DVD over cassette must be significant. DV25 (miniDV, DCVPro, DVCam) should be better than any DVD recorded material. DV25 is very lightly compressed. Any DVD compression should be higher and more lossy. This isn't even taking into account the mechanical aspects of recording DVD while in a turbulent environment. It's also going to be a larger device. For now, I'd say we can safely skip this format altogether.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

skyfly 0 #5 November 4, 2003 DVD Mpeg comprassion is very high (more compression = less quality) whereas DV compression is much less (less compression = higher quality). So teqhnically speaking, the DVDCam footage comes at a reduced quality compared to DV.Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
nacmacfeegle 0 #6 November 4, 2003 "DVD Mpeg comprassion is very high (more compression = less quality) whereas DV compression is much less (less compression = higher quality). " This is generally true, Sharon, however to be fair, the compression systems used by DVD files and regular video files are completely different. 'Standard' mini dv files are compressed in camera at a rate of around 5:1, DVD (and SVCD etc) files tend to have variable rate compression based on a wider range of parameters. "DVDCam footage comes at a reduced quality compared to DV" I would say this is probably true, but I haven't really had a chance to play with any footage from one of these cams. I'd like to be pleasantly surprised.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
