nacmacfeegle 0 #3 October 24, 2003 Most capture cards will need Windoze 98SE as a minimum. 98 did not have OHCI (USB Firewire etc) compatibility built in. I use Adobe Premiere, am very happy with it, for what its worth. But I would use whatever software comes with the capture card. pd190 0 #4 October 24, 2003 What Lou said..... I personnally like Pinnacle. It's easy, semi-fast, not prone to many problems, and a fairly simple setup. That being said....Premiere is more advanced and I have only used it once, but it has more features than Pinnacle. I think that Pinnacle is a great program for anyone who is starting to edit his own. It's ease of use is a building block for further advancements in the future. An added bonus is that Pinnacle will work on a variety of machine setups. I'm not sure on the reqs. for Premiere, but I've run Pinnacle on 95, 98, 98ME, XP and failed at my attempt to run it on Win 3.11 (this was just for fun to see if I could do it.) IMO...start with Pinnacle, work it, get the updates, and when your skills and knowledge base progress...you may decide to upgrade...or just stick with Pinnalce??? diverds 0 #5 October 24, 2003 For editing on the PC Premiere is the way to go. It might take you a bit longer to learn, but you will be glad you did. Its flexibility and options are well worth the time it will take you to learn the program, and that really wont be that bad. There are several really good Premiere books available at Barnes and Noble that will speed the learning process. Then again, if you are only looking to fairly basic stuff you might be happy with Pinnical or Ulead. They are simple to use and much cheaper than Premier. docjohn 0 #6 October 25, 2003 As for Pinnacle, I use their hardware. I had a DV-200 and then moved up to a DV-500 (for analog capture). Premiere? I love it. I've been using it 3 years. It took some learning but it does a great job for skydiving videos, especially tandems. I also used a Pyro Platinum capture card. Not much difference in capture cards. skydiver51 0 #7 October 25, 2003 If you are only going to do simple tandem videos then Pinnacle studio 8 is great. It's easy to learn and does alot. I use a TON of movies and clips I DL and most of them are in that format (Divx, Xvid ect.. for the movies) I use Vegas Video right now because it supports anything I throw at it. schumacher 0 #11 October 27, 2003 If you have DV camera, all you need is 12$ Firewire card (if not included in your notebook or PC) and very good program Scenalyzer (http://www.scenalyzer.com/main.html) It will split your video into scene files, so you can easily edit them in Ulead Stuio Pro or Adobe Premiere. Studio 8 also supports DVD authoring suitably enough for the average user. Once you've worked that to the max then start looking into the more hardcore products.
