Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther)

Recommended Posts

So they've announced the release of the new OS, which is the 24th of October... It's super cool, and definitely worth purchasing.

I got a developers version of it the other day and have been using it since... I can honestly say that it is far superior to any other os out there... well, at least any other mac os, and any of the windowz os.

Glad to hear from someone with firsthand knowledge of 10.3. I already placed my order but it's good to hear that you like it.

In your experience, what are the major improvements?

There are a lot of improvements, so here a couple of the things that stand out for me...

The first is that everything runs much quicker. Photoshop launches and runs tasks noticiably quicker.

The PrintCenter has been renamed to the Printer Setup Utility... One thing that I missed from os 9 to 10 was the desktop printer icons. Well, they'ver brought that back, and given you the opportunity to add the printer to the dock. The whole printcenter has been revamped.

The finder windows have a new area to the left where you can see favorite folders, and all mounted discs.. .It makes it much easier to navigate. Just like exploring a folder in windows, only nicer looking.

Fast user switching is dope... Go to the top right, click on your user name and switch to another name, and the entire screen rotated like a cube to the other users account screen. All the programs are running, and there's no load time at all. I use one account to mangae my music, and the other for work... it's super cool...

They've also added expose... this is a new way of navigating through your open windows... WINDOWS USERS READ THIS... So basically you assign a corner of the screen to activate expose when the mouse is brought there... Lets say you have every program open on your computer, and every program has 4 windows open in it. Trying to manuever around your open windows is a real pain in the butt... Well, just bring the mouse to that specified corner and induce expose. All the windows on the screen will shrink down enough so that you can see all of the windows in every program at the same time (they almost tile across the screen)... As you bring your mouse over any of the windows, the window title lights up so you know what you're bringing the mouse over... Expose remains active until you click on one of the windows and it becomes the window at the front. It makes vavigating windows much easier and much, much quicker.

The system preferences have been revamped, and the network preferences pane is especially improved.

And from a technician point of view... Apple's Remote Desktop Client comes automatically installed on every operating system, which is especially nice since I use the remote desktop administrator on a daily basis... Remote management is very cool with mac os x panther.

A little less than two weeks left.
