Slowfaller 0 #1 September 19, 2003 I just purchased a Canon Elura 50 to use for vacation/party purposes but when I do build my jump numbers a lot more I'd be interested in jumping it. I've searched this forum and didn't find much information other than the image stablization isn't as good as Sonys. In one post it's mentioned that Clay jumps an Elura but then I read he jumps a panasonic. The Elura does have a LANC port so it supports CAM EYE and the little thing seems to be tough, solid construction. Does anyone jump it? Opinions, thoughts? AndyMan 7 #3 January 4, 2004 History has shown that pretty much only Sony cameras are strong enough to put up with the stresses of freefall. There are not many people at all jumping Canon video equipment, so I think you'll find we have little to offer, except that generally we do not recomend non-Sony hardware. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. Slowfaller 0 #4 January 4, 2004 I've noticed that Sony is the dominating camera but was just wondering if anyone had an opinion. Thanks for the reply, Chris --"Someday you will die and somehow somethings going to steal your carbon" -MM
MichaelBess 0 #5 January 4, 2004 I believe Martin from Toledo (in Washington) was jumping a Canon Elura until he got fed up with it. He had nothing but problems and he ended up replacing it with a Sony. It worked fine on the ground but was not suited for his freefall needs. Just my two cents... tonyhays 86 #6 January 5, 2004 I used to jump the Canon Elura 40 mc. Supposedly it had the same resolution as the Sony PC105, but when you compared the playback on a TV the difference was astounding. I'd go with a Sony, my Canon only lasted about 100 video jumps before it started screwing up. The video heads kept getting clogged, no one could tell me if it was the mini-dv tapes or not. Started out using JVC, then moved onto Sony tapes when the problems started happening. It never worked right after that.“That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.”
skydiver51 0 #7 January 6, 2004 I've had the same problem with a JVC grdvm 90u. I used sony tapes in both cameras and only the jvc kept getting the head clogged. I quit jumping it last year and my wife uses it on the ground only but it still has the same problem and the service center can't seem to fix it. Not sure about canon. Go with the tried and proven sony.
