Still (35mm) question

Recommended Posts

Maybe this has been threaded to death but here goes:

I need a lightweight 35mm still camera (i.e. something along the lines and size of one of those dinky Olympus or Cannon point and shoots, not SLR type).

Which of these types of cameras have remote release capability? I know it is technically possible to crack the case on almost any camera and do it yourself, but I would like to avoid this....

danke

Good luck finding anything (decent) short of an SLR with a plug for a remote switch.

You might have some luck scouting around used camera stores for old school cameras like this Contax II.

Then again, you're going to run into another obstacle: A non-electronic remote switch.:|
My other ride is the relative wind.

Uuummm, ok since you didn't ask,
POS means Piece of Shit!!
For what you pay for that Elph, you can get a nice used or maybe new SLR, and it will last alot longer. The Elph is plastic, and just a waste of money. I went through the whole thing myself, and am now very happy with my Cannon SLR from ebay.
That's my .02

Check out the Phoenix lens on B&H. Only $155 for a pretty good wide angle (19mm-35mm, f3.5-4.5). They are made for Minolta, Cannon, Nikon...
At least it doesn't cost $400-700 like many wide angles. You could have a good system for about $325 if you get the camera on e-bay..

But a zoom is never as good as a fixed lens. I have a Voigtlander 19-35 mm for Canon myself, it works, and one guy I know jumps it. I haven't jumped mine yet (camera helmet isn't ready yet) but I've used it on the ground. A fixed lens, even if it isn't the best Canon lens, is way way better. Also unfortunately way way more expensive which is why I don't have one [:/]

I am aware of the differences.... I am an experienced video guy, but have some neck issues that demand not having a huge amount of camera hanging out the front and screwing up helmet CG....

Side mount you say? Bah!

I have a TRV series Camera, and do not want to spend the gazillion $$ on new PC type camera, new helmet, new mounting hardware, etc etc....
