Procedure for aligning Stills and Video

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I would like to know what practices people use to align there stills and video cameras. I will have my video on the side and my stills just in front of my forehead using a Bonehead Da Bomb helmet.

All opinions on this would be greatly appreciated.

Ian:)

Go buy a laser pointer, they are cheap as hell, then zoom your video camera in, mount your laser pointer on your helmet so that when you look through your video camera you see the dot in the center of the screen. Then use the Laser to site your still camera in.
If you are using a Flat mount for your still, then you might want to site your still in first and then move your video camera to the same angle.
Good Luck.

Yeah, what Ray said. However, I have one of these on a weaver base, but I remove it for flying. It is adjustable for windage and elevation and on the weaver it doesn't move around. It's definitely overkill for wide angle lenses, but I do like seeing my pictures perfectly aligned with my ringsite.

Thanks Ray,

I already have a laser and use it for my video, just wasn't sure what was easier to set first the video or the stills.

Thanks

See Q, us terrestrials have to have a reference to where the cameras are pointing when the helmet is on our head.

Just cause you can extend your left eye on a stalk and compare the viewfinders to what your right eye is seeing through the site, doesn't mean us mortal humans can.

Stop rubbing it in.

You could take the helmet off.....?

It would only be necesary to wear the helmet if you were aligning with a ring-site.

It never ocurred to me to have video and stills without the ringsight

Depending on the ring-sight, not even then.

For instance, it's not actually required when sighting in a concentric ring-sight.

As a matter of fact, I -don't- wear my helmet to align the video, still and ring-sight. I use a small pocket mirror.
