Does it matter which side the camera is mounted on?

Recommended Posts

Does it matter which side a camera is mounted on? I have a new Sony TRV 19 and it will fit better on my RIGHT ear. Previously I had the camera on LEFT. I can't remeber ever seeing anybody with it on their right.

I guess it could have a better chance for a riser slap as I look back to see myself throw the pilot chute.

Any comments?

I think that most people mount them on the left side so that if you look over your shoulder, it won't be in the way of any bridles or risers. At the same time, you don't want to look back during a deployment because it will load up your left riser causing excess stress on it and if you have an elliptical canopy, it could open off heading or even maybe spin up. I have seen cameras mounted on the right though, and they work. There's nothing wrong with it, you just have to think about the different pros and cons of doing it.

:), At Opening I tend to
look straight ahead,,, don't twist your neck,,, you should not have to "watch" your deployment.... once you can feel line stretch, and can sense that your risers are getting loaded,,,, then the time for potential conflict with your helmet has passed,,,, I then go right for my risers,,, as the canopy is clearing the d-bag,,,, to be sure they stay clear of the cameras......check with helmet manufacturers to be sure that all your gear is compatible....
.........................sorry boss,,, I can't work today,,,the sun is shining, and the turbines are spinning up!!!!!B|;):)
