btvr 0 #1 March 17, 2003 Got a question. How critical are the measurements you take for a new harness? I'm only talking maybe an inch or so. Is there a little margin of error?
rigging65 0 #2 March 17, 2003 Measurement are measurements. If they're not right, the Harness won't be perfect. Does this really matter? Probably not, but it might. An inch difference isn't a big deal for most people in Harness sizing. But, if you're getting a new rig, don't you want it to be perfect? skybytch 273 #3 March 17, 2003 An inch too short in the thigh or leg pad measurement could be a bad thing for a guy... an inch too short in the torso could be very uncomfortable for anyone. If you're paying all that money and waiting that long for a custom container, take the time to get the measurements right. Go by the manufacturer's instructions, use a soft cloth measuring tape and have someone else measure you.
riggerrob 643 #4 March 18, 2003 Hint, find someone who is familiar with measuring humans, like a tailor or parachute rigger. Wear your usual jumpsuit and jumping attire.
BMFin 0 #5 March 18, 2003 I have heard that tailors might measure too tight.. What I did was that I had two different riggers take the measurements and I then compared the figures just to be sure they looked the same..
btvr 0 #6 March 18, 2003 Thanks for the input. I called the manufacturer and found out exactly where the points of measurements were to be taken from. The hardest thing was trying to determine the point on the body by looking at the little drawing on the order form. The other good thing was that I managed to find the measurements that were taken from the purchase of my first rig, which by the way was done by a rigger. Had my wife measure me and compared. Everything came out the same! Well, except for the waist, and no, it didn't get smaller I'm sad to report. So I put in the order for my new wings this morning! Can't wait to get it and sell my reflex.
