AndyMan 7 #1 June 18, 2003 According to an articl in the bangkok post, USB 1.1 was secretly renamed to.... USB 2.0. What did they do with the "old" 2.0 standard? Nothing. There's now two "USB 2.0" standards. One runs at 12 MB/sec, the other at 425 MB/sec. Confused yet? This is important because people were expecting USB 2.0 to be a compeditor to Firewire - fast enough for DV. It now seems that is not the case. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. nacmacfeegle 0 #3 June 19, 2003 When they start making cameras with fast USB connections I might take an interest, till then, I'm sticking with firewire. Isn't 12mb/sec fast enough for 'normal' dv? Firewire is fast enough, so a bigger/faster pipe is about as much use to me as an inflatible dartboard.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. quade 4 #5 June 19, 2003 QuoteIsn't 12mb/sec fast enough for 'normal' dv? No. The kind of DV we shoot (MiniDV, DVCPro, DVCam are all pretty much the same as far as the data is concerned) is commonly referred to as DV25 and the 25 stands for 25 mb/second.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
AndyMan 7 #6 June 19, 2003 then why is firewire 800 relevant? _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
quade 4 #7 June 19, 2003 Ever make back ups of your video projects, especially the really long ones, to another drive? FireWire 800 will do it twice as fast.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Thanks for catching that Paul. As a rule of thumb your card, disc and firewire need to transfer about 5MB/sec to maintain crash free editing.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
