PhreeZone 20 #1 June 17, 2003 I'm wondering just what percentage of jumpers are jumping digital stills currently. I've heard that stuff like the WFFC/Martini Shots is requiring digital stills this years and was wondering if there are really that many jumpers that have converted all the way over to digital yet. Also if your shooting digital what camera are you using (I'm kinda thinking of Xmas presents )?Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Deuce 1 #2 June 17, 2003 Phree, when his site is back up, Madstyle.net, Evan Mortimore is having success with a Sony 5+ megapixel camera. Another shooter at my DZ is using a Dimage. There are other options than the 10D that produce acceptable results. I have both film and the 10D. My video concession is not set up yet for digital stills. Of the four of us flying video last Sunday, only me and the owner could afford to convert. We're both 40ish. Harlan and Tom are barely into their 20's and need a second rig much more than they need a rig-expensive camera. It's a tough situation. Plus it's kinda not as fun always looking for a way to earn back the cost of your equipment. It's great stuff, though, and if you can get family to help, go for it. It'll make you a quantum leap better as a aerial photographer. JP
freakydiver 0 #3 June 17, 2003 Totally agree with you there Deuce - there are many other completely viable options than the 10d - although I cannot wait to get mine! But - I've been using this little cheasy old 3megapixel cannon for alot of stuff lately and the clarity is just amazing on an average dig... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
vidiot 0 #4 June 18, 2003 QuoteAnother shooter at my DZ is using a Dimage. Deuce, what's his experience with the Dimage? I'm considering getting one... Thanks, KlausMy Logbook
Deuce 1 #5 June 18, 2003 His experience is good. He's very happy with it. Uncropped pictures to 8 X 10 are acceptable. Frankly, everybody wants a 10D, but a $700 Dimage is an acceptable alternative to a $2100 10D with a 20mm lens. The Dimage results only look a little gritty next to a Digital SLR. Kinda like my flying skills next to Mathias's. I look pretty cool until he comes freaking past. You can ask him directly via GravityGear.com I think that's him on the home page...
