BigM 2 #1 June 16, 2003 Anyone know where I can get one of those big aircraft aluminum cases? I think I want to get one and put the stiff foam inside that I can cut to custom fit my camera, helmet, and accessories. Any other ideas or suggestions are very welcome. quade 4 #2 June 16, 2003 I use a Storm Case to pack my rigs in for travel and I hand carry my camera and computer in soft cases. However, Storm Cases are very, very good for any high-tech case -- camera included.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
BigM 2 #3 June 16, 2003 Which size (model) do you use? The larger the better (it would seem). Does your camera helmet go in there too? Also, what do you use to carve/trim/shape the foam to fit your gear? Thanks Paul. Jeff "When I die, I want to go like my grandmother, who died peacefully in her sleep. quade 4 #4 June 16, 2003 Larger is NOT better when it comes to traveling. You absolutely must figure in how large a case will be acceptable to most airlines and how much everything will weigh when you pack it. When I load up my rigs in the case it will not be acceptable as carry-on, but will be acceptable (or at least was LAST year) as checked baggage without extra charges for size or weight. Since the new weight restrictions, I think I'll end up having to pay extra. I'm using an iM2750 for my rigs and loaded it weighs in at 68 pounds. No guarentees for your equipment weight. Storm Cases come with pick and pluck cube foam, which is pretty standard for all cases of this type.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
nacmacfeegle 0 #5 June 16, 2003 I use a pelican http://www.pelican.com/case similar to Paul's Storm case. I hear they are expensive, but I didn't pay for mine so can't really compare. They are bombproof though, mine has been in all sorts of nasty places, on work assignments, and I don't have a complaint about its toughness.. For less fragile stuff, cables adaptors, bits and pieces, tools etc, I use an aluminium case from a regular photo/DIY outlet. These are not nearly as strong as a good plastic case.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Cajun 0 #6 June 16, 2003 I us an aluminum brief case that came with foam. It was meant for sensitive electronic equipment. I consider my camera that. Got it from Lowe's for $
fasterfaller 0 #7 June 17, 2003 E-bay , bey a plastic pelican case and never worry about what is inside ever again . I use pelican cases for all my expensive camera gear . I learned how good they are on a rafting trip when the guide said "tie a rope to it and we will pull it behind the raft . I have had faith in them since that trip and they have never let me down . Before the E-bay haters see this , look at the sellers feedback before buying from them . You can save a lot of money buying pelican cases on e-bay . I have purchased over 400 items from e-bay and have never been burned . Just research your seller .

Deuce 1 #9 June 17, 2003 I have an old Tundra for my cameras, but I keep EVERYTHING else in this beast.(Pelican 1660) Everybody dogs me about it at first, but then everybody wants one. Holds two rigs, helmet, three suits, and stuff with room to spare. Rolls real well.

Deuce 1 #11 June 17, 2003 If you shop hard, you can get one for about $200. It's nothing compared to what's in it.
AndyMan 7 #12 June 17, 2003 I bought mine for $20 at home depot. It's an aluminum sided case with strong buckles and hinges. It's sold in the toolbox section. It's shaped like a briefcase. The downside is that it comes standard with dividers instead of foam. I was originally going to swap them out for foam, but never bothered. I've found the dividers work pretty well.__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
freakydiver 0 #13 June 17, 2003 I absolutely LOVE my pelican case. I watched my case floating down a river once here in colorado bashing into rocks and not one thing happened to my camera. Amazing rock solid cases and MANY sizes to choose from. I have two, one for travelling and one for my backpacking excursions... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
