r2hubert 0 #1 April 8, 2003 Hi all, I just send my DCR-PC101 to Sony because the touch panel doesn't go on any more. The screen was flaky for a little while, going off and on depending of the position but now it stay off I can't believe Sony have a base flat line price for all the repair ($216), that is crazy. Did any body else get this problem and get it fixed? Will see how long it's going to take to get it fixed and how much they are going to charge.... -- Renaud SMA #9 "Mind is like parachute. Spy38W 0 #2 April 9, 2003 Crap, mine did the same thing a while ago. I haven't sent mine off to get fixed yet, they didn't fix it as a warranty thing? -- Hook high, flare on time
PhreeZone 20 #3 April 9, 2003 $216 was what it cost me to have my 110 repaired when the LANC port and firewire ports died. They ended up replacing 2 boards, cleaned the whole thing, recalabrated it and a few other things for the base price. The price on the one board was $400 alone since they did a line by line priceing on the invoice. I paid the set fee and that was it.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
newshooter12 0 #4 April 9, 2003 Don't feel to bad... I think you're paying just for the labor. Bench time costs a bundle of dough. If we send back a lens at work it costs $600 just to open the box and do nothing more. (not that i pay it because the copany does, but it's still not cheap) matt
freefalle 0 #5 April 9, 2003 from what Ray Dutch told me theyll go through the entire camera and fix any thing thats worn or out of specs. Its alot of money but its better than the cost of a new camera!
r2hubert 0 #6 April 9, 2003 The warranty is only 90 days for labor. After you have to pay a flat line of $216 and if you are still under warranty you do not pay for parts only for extra labor...You can add a $26 if you want an estimate. http://products.sel.sony.com/SEL/service/service.html -- Renaud SMA #9 "Mind is like parachute. And also because you can only access the settings of the camera by the flip screen Any ideas how long it's going to take? -- Renaud SMA #9 "Mind is like parachute. It only functions when it's open." freeatlast 0 #8 April 10, 2003 I bought a PC101 before heading off travelling round the world ... It broke within 3 weeks of setting off despite all good care ... I think it must have been a faulty model ... I had to send it home with a buddy and buy a new one in the US as I wasn't going to be in one place long enough to get the repair done !!! I don't know about US warranties but they repaired it free of charge in the Uk ....

If you have the work# yes I've seen this and check really often... But I send my camcorder by FedEx it was delivered yesterday morning and the online tracking said "The Sony product that you have inquired about has not yet been received." I ask Sony about this and the answer was: The online repair request status only becomes available when our system has been updated after the product has been assigned to a technician for repair. This may be a few business days from the arrival of the product into the repair facility. So now I'm just worried and maybe impatient -- Renaud SMA #9 "Mind is like parachute. r2hubert 0 #11 June 2, 2004 Guess what..... a little bit more than a year later my touch screen doesn't work any more... The screen is not black but the touch screen doesn't react any more to my gentle fingers.... And my lanc port is flaky.... I'm getting really upset right now. -- Renaud SMA #9 "Mind is like parachute. It only functions when it's open."
