iam 0 #1 March 5, 2003 I would like to save about 10 mins of DV that i have edited with Premier 6.0 onto a cd. I done exported the footage as an avi file but found out later that the file was nearly 1Gb in size....arghhhhh. What is the best format to save some footage to cd. I know there is a trade off between quality and size, but i'm sure there must be some format that i can save to disk. I did try yo save it as an MPEG but the system keeps crashing. Please help Ian."Don't ever knock on deaths door, just ring the bell and run away - it really pisses him off"
Cajones 0 #2 March 6, 2003 Send me your system specs (be very detailed - processor/s, RAM, chipset, video card, capture card, operating system, service packs, and other software installed) and I'll try to help you get your system stable so you can encode it in Premiere. murrays 0 #3 March 6, 2003 What are your export options in Premiere? If you can export as .dv then you can do all sorts of good stuff using Quicktime Pro ($29) (www.quicktime.com)-- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
nacmacfeegle 0 #4 March 6, 2003 Why are you trying to save it to CD? If it is for archiving, why don't you export it to a tape in your cam. If it is for transfer to another computer, without a firewire conn. laplink it via a USB cable. Or split the files up and spread over a couple of CDs. Otherwise you will have to compress it, and suffer quality loss in the process. If you let us know why you want to put the video on disc, we can probably find a solution for you. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. gus 1 #5 March 6, 2003 Huffyuv is a popular lossless codec that might get your 1gb file onto a cd. GusOutpatientsOnline.com
nacmacfeegle 0 #6 March 6, 2003 Gus, I'm curious about this codec, does it work on type 2 DV files, the blurb only talks about YUV (analogue) signals......-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. iam 0 #7 March 6, 2003 Thanks for all the help, I have now managed to get the file size down to 120 Mb by exporting it as a .wmv file. Not too much loss in quality either. The reason i wanted it on a disk is because some people I work with have shown interest in skydiving, and the easist way to show them some was on my pc at work. I normally export the final dv to tape. Ian."Don't ever knock on deaths door, just ring the bell and run away - it really pisses him off"

gus 1 #9 March 6, 2003 QuoteGus, I'm curious about this codec, does it work on type 2 DV files I have to admit that I don't know, it's been a while since I last used it. I'll try it tonight and see what it does. GusOutpatientsOnline.com
gus 1 #10 March 7, 2003 Last night I tried encoding a 200meg type 2 dv file with Huffyuv. Technically it did work but the end file was about 4 times bigger! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
nacmacfeegle 0 #11 March 7, 2003 "the end file was about 4 times bigger!" Ooooops, not really a useful compressor then....Thanks for taking the time though Gus -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
