MrHixxx 0 #1 February 21, 2003 Well, after much pain, effort, PMs, and $, my Optik is reborn with a still camera. The mount was fabricated from a 1/8" alluminum I-beam scrap I found in a steel yard. Add a 10 degree bend and a little jigsaw and grinder love and voila!!! This weekend begins zeroing the camera in with the camcorder. I ballparked it by mounting the whole business on a tripod and leveling the lenses together. Off to the gym now to build up my neck! Thanks to all who answered questions and helped with the process... -Hixxxdeath,as men call him, ends what they call men -but beauty is more now than dying’s when
PhreeZone 20 #2 February 21, 2003 Do you have plans on making it so a line can't get between the still and the helmet?Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
MrHixxx 0 #3 February 21, 2003 Yes actually, I am going to get some lighter gauge alluminum to run from the front of the d box to the leading edge of the still mount. Otherwise, that is what the cutaway is for. -Jondeath,as men call him, ends what they call men -but beauty is more now than dying’s when
SkyFlyer 0 #4 February 21, 2003 Nice helmet. I'm a novice camera flyer so forgive the ignorance but is there a big disadvantage to mounting the still directly on top of the Optic or it is just personal preference? Thanks.
MrHixxx 0 #5 February 21, 2003 For me it is just preference. I feel safer with it out in front. -Hixxxdeath,as men call him, ends what they call men -but beauty is more now than dying’s when
SteveM 0 #6 February 22, 2003 Jon, I'm a newbie, so this might be a silly question but I've set a goal for the end of this summer to be flying video after I get about 300 jumps or so. My question to you is, what kind of exercises do you recommend doing to build up the neck muscles? Thanks for the help in advance. MrHixxx 0 #7 February 22, 2003 I was just joking about building up my neck. It is more important to have a canopy that opens slow and reliably. A lot of camera guys use Spectres for this reason (Joe Jennings: 25 lb camera helmet - Spectre 135). I use a Xaos and have used Cobalts and Velocities (my setup is about 10 lbs). Stay away from canopies that can smack you on opening, could make for a bad day if you don't. -Jondeath,as men call him, ends what they call men -but beauty is more now than dying’s when
