Landing Stills

Recommended Posts

O.K., now that I have exhausted your patience with my DVD questions ;)
here's another "how to make photo money" question.

Some DZs in our area offer still photos of (mostly) tandem landings. They are taken with a digital still camera and printed on a color printer. Alternative for those who choose not to have video or stills. It's also a happening thing at resorts where you can get your kid's picture with the dolphin.

Anyone doing this? What size prints do you offer? What do you charge?

Hmm this is something I've started to do. Not intentionally but since I spend so much time at the landing zone taking pics of jumpers & driving the van anyway, I often happen to get nice pics of students and/or tandems as well.

I used to go easy on those pics, still do for jumpers. I only email em tho, as-is, or burn a cd or get them printed. Don't print them myself.

I quit emailing around for free tho, too much work and too expensive a camera (Canon D30). I only charge EUR 2,- per emailed pic right now (about $2). I sell them to tandem passengers who wouldn't cough up the money for video, they don't seem to want to pay much more. Students may, tho.

I also trade a lot (well, most) of pics for packjobs (yeah I know, I'm lazy...)

I've been doing it when I'm not on the load with a tandem video and I charge $15 for an 8x10. I charge $15 for a screen size email. why should some get an 8x10 on the computer screen for next to nothing just because its easy to email, while someone else gets an 8x10 on paper but has to pay $15. I quit doing cheap e-mails. I don't do full files anymore. Thats like giving away the negative. The difference is you have countless originals on the digital side. I only do 72dpi at about 800x600. (720x576 actually are the pixel dimensions of the 8x10 print size)So many things are going electronic now, so just because it is easier to email a file to someone and you are saving a bit on paper, don't think that you should nearly give it away.
My O.C.D. has me chasing a dream my A.D.D. won't let me catch.

For Sure... The value of something is based on the Importance to the BUYER!!! ... Just because a pro photographer has all the equipment (think$$$)
to make it SEEM simple,,,,, the cost should not BE simple....
...Charge whatever the market will stand,,,
while still being reasonable,,, :)When we "give away" things,,, then their worth becomes zero... [:/]
