rredman 0 #1 January 14, 2003 I was wondering if anyone out there is using an iBook for doing video editting with imovie, and if so, do you find the performance good enough?
TomAiello 26 #2 January 14, 2003 I've done quite a bit of editing on iMovie on a newish iBook, an old Titanium, and a superhot dual G4 desktop.Truthfully, I can't really tell the difference while working, except in those "gotta lean back and let it render" moments. When I use FCP, I find the better machine works better, but in iMovie, for short projects (longest I've done is maybe 15 minutes), I'm quite satisfied with the iBook (or any of the machines I've used, actually). The biggest downside I've found on the iBook is screen size, and in iMovie, that's not a horrible problem.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
rredman 0 #3 January 14, 2003 Thanks Tom, I'm trying to decide between the iBook and the new 12" Powerbook. I'm not sure it is worth the extra 500 or so to get the g4 instead of the g3.

I'm not sure it is worth the extra 500 or so to get the g4 instead of the g3.I think there is more to your decision than just the processor...video processor and memory, bluetooth, S-Video and VGA out on the G4....how much hard drive and ram do each come with, etc. That being said, I moved from a iMac G3 400 to a flatpanel iMac G4 800 and noticed quite a bit of difference but in your case, the processors speeds aren't really much different. I'd take a close look at what each model offers and see if that is something you could use. be sure to get lots of hard drive space my - 60 gb drive is always nearly full - and lots of RAM. 512mb at a minimum.-- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
rredman 0 #5 January 14, 2003 Yeah I know. I've been looking at al the specs too. I've go a g4 emac with 60GB (that is almost full) and 1GB or RAM. It works great, and to be honest, I am leaning towards the powerbook.
