Deuce 1 #1 September 28, 2002 Yesterday was day one of the Byron Boogie. No tandem work, so I worked out my new wings shooting 10 and 12 way. Michael,(I hope I remeber the name right) the guy that built Brent Finley, et al's helmets, is doing RW in the big groups and watches my video and gives me some coaching. His helmets are awesome. His is a very highly modified Bieffe motorcycle helmet with all kinds of whiz-bang electronics and custom anodized aluminum bits. We were going out of the Van all day (9 jumps) totally super fun. He told me how to get in and out of the burble without crashing by watching my video and telling me what I was feeling. Psychic, I tell you. You meet the best people skydiving, and the best advice seems to be free. Relative work today (staying at home with the family) but more tomorrow. 1. Start skydiving younger in the next life. 2. Jump more.
brentfinley 0 #2 September 28, 2002 Michael Bess is his name and is a very helpful and nice guy. We met when I had 140 jumps or so in xmas 1992 at an Eloy holiday boogie. I've got two helments from michael and they work very well for me. Glad he could give you some pointers! He'll be enjoying some good Karma on his drive home from Byron. I'm sure the drive sucks from Seattle. :)www.brentfinley.com brent@brentfinley.com
VideoToaster 0 #3 October 1, 2002 Hello I am a Michael Bess helmet owner also. With another one in production. He builds an excellent custom helmet. I able to use a Sony VX1000 camcorder, 35mm Minolta 7xi, Pentex 645 or Fill flash with a Pentex Quick Shoe mount. JJohnson 0 #4 October 1, 2002 The Byron Boogie rocked, always a great time...and Michael Bess is an all around great guy. I'm honored to have him as a friend. His helmets are more than what I need for the limited video I do, but he has been trying to teach me some of the fine points of his art. One day I may have to ask him to do me a helmet. ERICCONNELLY 0 #5 October 1, 2002 MB was my JM for my first (yes I bought beer) jump and is definately a great video flier and master machinist. In addition to the awesome headgear he jumps he also makes some pretty cool hook knives. Don't talk him up tooo much (wouldn't want him to think we actually like him or anything ;-0)
MichaelBess 0 #6 October 3, 2002 Awwwwww Thanks Guys, I am always glad to help out where I can. The Byron Boogie was an absolute blast, Clay put me to work doing tandem videos and the rest of the time I was just having fun and skydiving hard! Eric, Lots of improvements since then huh Jeff, I will not forget that Freefly jump for quite some time! Did you say hi to Kathy like I asked you? Brent, wasn't it 80 jumps and I could never be where I am today without your help! And yes the drive sucked but the Karma was excellent! David, The helmet will be done very soon! I can't wait to complete it as it should be nicer than the first one! Thanks for all of our help and patience!!! John, Glad to help! Keep up the practice!!!! JJohnson 0 #7 October 3, 2002 Hey Michael!!! I didn't know you lurked this place or I woulda talked bad about you!!! Of course I would have had to make things up. That last jump was a blast. Just think of the cool things we can do once we actually learn to freefly!! Kathy says "thank you" and it was good for her. In fact she wants me to leave more often to see you, so long as I come back and greet her for you like that. She really liked the pez dispenser thing. I got a question for you, concerning my video helmet. What kinda cool set up can you do for a side mount on a Bone head? I got a D-box on it, but I think it sits out kinda far. MichaelBess 0 #8 October 3, 2002 Hey Jeff, Yup, my buddy Brent sent me an E-mail to clue me in as to the thread (what a great guy). Of course she did and I am still going to have you send me the proper video!! She will understand ... Love that Pez move! Yes I do make a stand alone "L" bracket with wide angle support. In my opinion the most important thing about the "L" bracket is to support the wide angle lens. There is nothing more frustrating than losing your new .5 (or what ever you are using) from a riser slap and since they are plastic threads (on most of them) it is pretty easy to do. Let me know what you need and I can custom make anything! It may take me some time as I am pretty BZ but it WILL be done right and bullet proof (as well as a minimum distance out the side).
