brabzzz 0 #1 February 26, 2003 Hello....again.... Can someone tell me, the following and no rumours please! 1) mini links, large links or soft links for safety? 2) Type 8 or 17 for chest strap safety? 3) line type for first canopy (Spectre 190) - 525 Dacron, 550/825 MicroLine? skybytch 273 #2 February 26, 2003 Quote1) mini links, large links or soft links for safety? Whichever you feel safest with is the safest. If your container will have type 17 ("mini" or 1") risers you'll want mini links (#3.5) or SLinks - #5's won't fit well. If your risers will be type 8 ("regular" or 2") you'll want large links (#5). Line type will also affect this; if you get 525 Dacron you won't be able to get mini links with it (on PD canopies anyway, not sure about others). Quote2) Type 8 or 17 for chest strap safety? Whichever makes you feel most comfortable. Type 8 is 2" wide, type 17 is 1" wide. Either one will work fine. Quote3) line type for first canopy (Spectre 190) - 525 Dacron, 550/825 MicroLine? Not 550 microline - we call that "dental floss" where I work. Will go out of trim way faster than any other line. The majority of containers in the US are sized assuming the use of 825 microline; 525 Dacron will increase the canopy's pack volume quite a bit. Dacron won't go out of trim as fast as microline and it is definitely the right choice if you're planning to do any CRW with this canopy. Personally... I'd go with 825 micro. Hooknswoop 19 #4 February 27, 2003 Quote1) mini links, large links or soft links for safety? Personally I like soft links. They are stronger than rapide links, have lower pack volume, don't damage he slider grommets, and generally don't fail. The only case I have heard of was a sharp grommet cutting through a soft link. The grommet edge should have been caught during an inspection prior to installing the soft links. Quote2) Type 8 or 17 for chest strap safety? Either one, the chest strap doesn't take much force. Quote3) line type for first canopy (Spectre 190) - 525 Dacron, 550/825 MicroLine? 825 Micro-line or Vectran. About the same life span except Vectran will still be in trim at the end of it's life. If the risers don't have toggle nose hoods the slider gromments can, and has, struck the end of the toggle and released the one brake during opening. You must consider all of the equipment and its compatibility. I know I'm not telling Hooknswoop anything new.TerryI'm old for my age. riggerrob 643 #6 February 27, 2003 1) P.D. Slinks 2) Type 17 or doubled type 8 chest strap fills out the buckle better so it won't slip while you are shifting around in the airplane. 3) 825 pound Spectra
