umalik 0 #1 February 26, 2003 I have 27 jumps and have been jumping rental gear since I took up this sport about a year and half ago. I weigh 190lbs and have jumped PD230/Falcon235 (~22 jumps), Spectre210 (~4 jumps). I have stood up and run off most of my landings (including the one's on 210) including a couple cross winder on tarmac so I think Im fine in that department as long as I stay focused. Question: Would it be advisable to get a Sabre190 at this stage as my first canopy? The concern is the wingloading for my experience level as well as Sabre's notoriety of being a hard opener. I was looking into a used Javelin J4 with Sabre190 and PDR190. Would this canopy combo fit safely into a Javelin J4? What would be a good price of Javelin J4/Sabre190/PDR190/Cypres/140Jumps/DOM99? I would appreciate help with this decision! Sami
Hooknswoop 19 #2 February 26, 2003 Averaging 1.5 jumps/month, I would recommend nothing smaller than the Spectre 210, or even a larger canopy. Currency is very important in skydiving. The J4 will hold a PD-190R, but it is tight, a PD-176R is a better choicec for the J4, so consider a J5 or another, larger container. Sabre's are known for hard openings, but a pocket on the slider fixes that. Consider another canopy, such as the Sabre2 (upgrade to the Sabre that PD no longer makes), Safire2 (same story as the Sabre, with a differenct manufacturer), Spectre, etc. Think nice openings, reliable, low performance. Finally do not consider any high performance canopies, such as the Crossfire, Stiletto, Cobalt, Heatwave, anything cross-braced, Vengance, etc. Edit: Sun Path now offers the J4.5K wich is sized for the PD-176R and up to a ZP 210 main. AggieDave 6 #3 February 26, 2003 I would advise against it! Although you weight 190lbs, you're not equating the weight of the gear when figuring your wingloading and you'll be getting at 1.1:1 to about 1.2:1, which isn't good for your jump numbers. If I was you I would go with a 210 for your first canopy. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
PhreeZone 20 #4 February 26, 2003 Only other canopy I'd suggest looking at is the Lotus 210.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
