Geronimo509 0 #1 April 15, 2002 Just wondering if anyone else has had a situation like this... I just got my new pc9 like a month ago and last night dropped it and now there's a pretty good sized crack where the memory stick goes and it won't eject the tape. I was wanting to see if somebody has sent something similar to that to sony and if they fixed it for free or said it wasn't covered by the warrenty. Thanks
quade 4 #2 April 15, 2002 Unless you made the purchase with an American Express card or had some other type of insurance on the camera, then I think you're probably going to have to come up with the entire repair cost.Sorry.quadehttp://futurecam.com
Rdutch 0 #3 May 1, 2002 I dropped my pc5 and the same thing happened it cracked and the tape wouldnt eject. They refused my warranty and they also told me that even if it was covered they wouldnt do it for free because it was used skydivingHook low Flare late
jdhill 0 #4 May 1, 2002 Skydiving? You mean some people actually jump out of a plane with a camera???http://www.aerialfusion.com
nacmacfeegle 0 #5 May 1, 2002 Odd thing huh? When the PC7 was first launched and marketed in the UK, they had a 'skydive wedding' as the TV advert with Wendy Smith and Patrick de Gayardon as the happy couple, filming each other with said PC7s. So are Sony now saying their cameras are unsuitable for such use?CyaD
quade 4 #6 May 1, 2002 I don't think Sony is saying that their cameras are unsuitable, but rather that if you drop it and break it -- well, they just can't cover that under warranty. It's not really a skydiving specific policy.Warranties are to cover issues that crop up due to normal wear and tear or manufacturer's defects -- not accidents. For instance, does a car manufacturer a fix it under warranty if the fan belt breaks? Yes. Do they repair it for free if you run it off the road and into a tree? No.quadehttp://futurecam.com
nacmacfeegle 0 #7 May 1, 2002 Hey Paul, agreed on the warranty issues, but this is the point I picked up on."they also told me that even if it was covered they wouldnt do it for free because it was used skydiving"I know for a fact that Sony won't touch my PC7, which is in desperate need of some service work, all because I had to hack the operating software to DV in-enable it grrr...nash, nash, stupid Sony Europe didn't release DV in-enabled uprights till the PC100 (or thereabouts), crazy or what? nacmacfeegle 0 #8 May 2, 2002 ""they also told me that even if it was covered they wouldnt do it for free because it was used skydiving"And their current ad campaign in the UK for the wee micro "IP" series uses a skydiving image again......CyaD
freeflir29 0 #9 May 3, 2002 If you have homeowners or renters insurance check with them. I know someone that trashed their camera skydiving and the insurance replaced it. Policies differ but it's worth the call to check. I'm sure the deductable is far less than the cost of replacing the camera. "It's all about the BOOBIES!"
