Geoff 0 #3 March 20, 2002 WillI got mine from Kamla electronics on Tottenham Court Road in London. They are the retail arm of http://www.askdirect.co.uk but I couldn't find the step-ring on the web site. Maybe email or phone them. I don't have the number but you should be able to get it from directory enquiries. If the one you are looking at is really 30.5mm then it probably won't fit. (Keene?)hope that helpsGeoff
skreamer 1 #4 March 20, 2002 Thanks GeoffYes, I was looking at keene.co.uk. Have just emailed askdirect. Did you buy your lens from them as well (Kenko 0.42?)?Will"Don't die until you're dead"
Geoff 0 #5 March 20, 2002 I got the Kenko 0.5 from them. The 0.42 they showed me gave a small ' vignetting' effect (dark corners on the picture) unless you zoomed in slightly.Geoff
SpinDoctor 0 #6 March 20, 2002 I know Jessops dont do one - i'm not sure of the price of the one they dont do either :o)
gus 1 #7 March 21, 2002 I got my 0.5 Kenko lense and a 30mm -> 37mm stepup ring from London Camera Exchange in Guildford, although their website is pretty crap."Sex? Once every six seconds. Skydiving? Five times, every six seconds."
Remster 30 #8 March 21, 2002 Dont get him to Guildford!!!! It will be an excuse for him to visit!!!RemsterMuff
skreamer 1 #9 March 21, 2002 Too late dumbass, your wife already invited me.... (now stop posting drivel to the serious forums...)Gus, isn't the 0.5 better suited to filming FS? I thought the general consensus was that for freeflying a 0.42 was the most suitable lens? Will"Don't die until you're dead"
gus 1 #10 March 21, 2002 Trouble is, the wide you go the closer you have to be to get a sensible size image. I find my 0.5 to be a pretty good compromise but I haven't tried anything else.Specifically Trev told me his 0.42 was too wide and that everything looked really far away unless you're right in their face.Of course if you've got the skills to stay dead close to your subject then there's no problem .Come to Guildford! Probably the most awesome place in Surrey that starts with the letter G.Gus"Sex? Once every six seconds. Skydiving? Five times, every six seconds." skreamer 1 #11 March 21, 2002 Thanks for the tip about askdirect (kamla), Geoff, they just got back to me. Anybody in the UK who is looking for a step up ring (and can't get to the Kamla shop), you can get one from askdirect by calling them on 0800 132 185. The ring costs £10 and is not on their web-site. skreamer 1 #12 March 21, 2002 QuoteSpecifically Trev told me his 0.42 was too wide and that everything looked really far away unless you're right in their face.Yeah, I can see how that applies to Trev, considering he does a lot of freefly coaching - but I still think a 0.42 is the way to go. Improve your flying skills and get closer to whoever you are jumping with. Just going by what I have heard and read of course, seeing as I have only just ordered my FF2. JeanJeanie 0 #13 March 21, 2002 Sony makes a lens that does not require a step up ring, it is a dirrect 30 mm thread. Otherwise you need a 30mm adaptor. The other number would depend on the lens thread, with sony and kenko it is usually a 37mm.jeanjeaniewww.boneheadcomposites.com
Grumpy 9 #14 March 21, 2002 Why not get a 0.42 and zoom the camera in a little so gives the same field of vision as a 0.5. Then if you want to try a wider angle for footage within the formation, just zoom back out. Effectively, you'll have both lenses in one with the 0.42. cvfd1399 0 #15 June 7, 2005 I am in that boat right now. I have a .42 and have been wondering will zooming in a bit work and still get good quality? The camera is at the shop right now, but I will try it when it gets home.
