weber 0 #1 March 3, 2002 If I mount a PC 9 or PC 110 on the side of my bonehead mindwarp, do I need to get a chincup?
prost 0 #3 March 3, 2002 do a search, this has been brought up a couple of times before.William
apoil 0 #4 March 3, 2002 I've been jumping a PC9 side mounted on a bonehead with no chincup, no problem. Depends on what you are doing and how professional you need it to be.

apoil 0 #6 March 4, 2002 oh yeah... that woud explain why I've had to replace the camera so many times... not.what does a chin cup have to do with keeping the camera? It has nire to do with keepting the helmet secure so you get a more steady shot and less potential problems on opening. The PC9 being pretty lightweight, it's probably not 100% necessary. As I said, I've had no problems.
PhreeZone 20 #7 March 4, 2002 I jumped my 110 a few times with out a chin cup, One time it got hit by the riser, the helmet was a touch loose on the head and rotated with the riser slap, just about took my nose off and the helmet was popped off my head. The Chin strap is the only thing that kept it on. I bought a chin cup the next day... weber 0 #8 March 4, 2002 Thanks for the input...it sounds like I should get one. At least if I get a pc 110 cause I know it weighs a bit more than the pc 5.
MrHixxx 0 #9 March 4, 2002 I have a PC 110 with an Optik. With the weight of the camera, I can't imagine not having the chin cup there to get it sinched down in place. It also has a slick quick release on it to get it off your head fast in an emergency.-Hixxx"Sous ma tub, Dr. Suess ma tub"
prost 0 #10 March 7, 2002 a chin cup has a lot to do with keeping the camera. The chin straps on skydiving helmets go under the chin. This prevents the hemet from rocking backwards but not forwards. Yes it is possible to do hundreds of jumps with only a chin strap and not lose your camera helmet, but if things happen just right the helmet can roll forward and come off your head. The cup in itself is only for impact protection. If you use a football style chinstrap it will do the same thing as far as keeping the camera helmet from rolling forward. It just will not provide any impact protection. Ever see a football player's helmet come off? Usually when the top snaps come undone and the chinstrap rolls under the chin and becomes simular to what you have on a skyding helmet's chinstrap. A force still has to be applied to the helmet in a precise way, but if so, it will come off.If you fly camera, get a chincup.William
apoil 0 #11 March 7, 2002 You just contradicted yourself.First you said the chincup has a lot to do with keeping the camera but then you say that the chinstrap does just as much. Well of course, no one is going to wear a helmet without some kind of fastener. If the chin cup is just for impact protection, then it's not about keeping the camera. Gravitymaster 0 #12 March 7, 2002 I wish I could remember the entire conversation but a while back I was speaking to a dentist who also skydives and flys a camera and he told me filming without a chin cup can cause tininitus (ringing in the ears) You may want to consult your own dentist to confirm this. PhreeZone 20 #13 March 7, 2002 A chin strap hold in on most of the time, Chin cups always work when fastened. You can get the chinstrap loose on accident too ealy for my tastes.Cause I don't wanna come back down from this cloud... ~ Bush

prost 0 #15 March 7, 2002 Read my post again. You missed the point. The hard cup is for protection only. The fact that it goes over the chin prevents the helmet from coming off. The strap used on skydiving helmets will not do this because they only go under the chin. In other words the chin cup keeps your hemet from rolling off because it goes over the chin instead of under it, not because of it being hard.WilliamWilliam
