flyingferret 0 #1 February 27, 2002 I have a little bit more advice to ask. I did get my PC-1 on the auction for a final price of $700. So, now I am faced with either buying a new helmet or attempting to mount it on my Hurricane. Well, I am kinda low on funds, so I thought I would try and mount it on the Hurricane. The Hurricane's sides are not really flat, so mounting on the side would be a chore. There is a side mount adapter for a velocity I think I could make work. But after reading everything here, I am thinking maybe top mount is best anyway. So, I want to make a platform for the top of my helmet, kinda like the ones you see on camera helmets with round tops -- like a /'''''''''\ shape. What are thoughts on this? Get someone to make it out of metal? Make it myself out of fiberglass epoxy? Any ideas or advice would be useful. The camera is a PC-1, and later I might add a still camera.Malachi
AggieDave 6 #2 February 27, 2002 You could use a resin to make a mold of the side of the helmet and make a nice fiberglass mount to make it sit straight up on the side instead of at an angle. Then use a d-box or make a cage out of sheetmetal for the actual camera and mount that to the "wedge" mounting the "wedge" to the helmet. Worst case, you could always mount the camera on the side of your Pro-Tec in the time being..."Wait...are you selling Penis Mighters?"
flyingferret 0 #3 February 27, 2002 Yes, grasshopper-son, I have thought of all these. But, the problem is how. I think I could do the fiberglass resin thing...it can't be that hard right? I would just have to make a replica of the curve of the helmet and then base my mold off that. I am not opposed to mounting it on my pro-tec, except being a half-shell, it would be really wobbly. The metal bracket idea is not a bad route, but I don't have the metal or the tools. Plus, I dont want it looking like a flamed-out bug engine compartment in front of CiCi's. LOL Yes, I rememeber. And I don't trust my self, and sure as hell not you, with metal working. I mean, hell, look what you did to your dad's dremel Malachi
AggieDave 6 #4 February 27, 2002 You have to know, though, I'm getting professional help this semester on metal working skills. When I have the proper tools available, I'm fairly good. The problem is I can't afford those kind of tools. Although, if you designed something, I could get some time in the metal fab shop on campus and make something nice."Wait...are you selling Penis Mighters?" airdrew20012001 0 #5 February 27, 2002 "oh, boy" they all said "that damn Drew is now going to chip in". Or not. Here's my $1.53: buy a good helmet. You have to remember you have invested a fair amount of dinero in a camera that you want to make sure nothing bad happens to. While I have seen some interesting home made gigs that worked, I have also seen some that have not. To the detriment of the film or the camera, both equal wasted time and money be it only on jump tickets or worse, the camera itself. You can get really nice helmets for pretty cheap what with everybody and their dog doing video then selling their first helmet used. If you end up going cheap-o for now you will probably end up getting a decent one later and any and all money now spent is or can be lost. flyingferret 0 #6 February 27, 2002 Well, I kinda like the idea of composite anyway, because less snagging, more smooth design. I really want a Batrack if I can just find one cheap, I would be all over it. But jeez they are more than $400. And I am not sure if I chould be spending that kinda of money. I mean I want to....but....damn.Malachi
AggieDave 6 #7 February 27, 2002 In the mean time look at the Boneheads like we had talked about. I found a few in the classifieds for around $100 a while back, I'm sure you can find something like that too."Wait...are you selling Penis Mighters?"
