Sigma 395 canopy. Opine for me please

Recommended Posts

Just got word that my new Tandem Sigma 395 canopy will be delivered tomorrow. I'm replacing an EZ 425. Commentary from users of said canopy would be appreciated.

Are there any used Sigma Systems for sale out there?

I've flown the Sigma 395, 375, the SET 400, the Icarus 400, 365, and the EZ 425.

First thing your going to notice is that it packs WAY easier into the container.

Second the openings are great. They open like a giant Stiletto. Speaking of openings, you won't have the common tension knots of the 425's (the one's that are overdue for a reline anyway). I actually cleared a line over malfunction on one. I attribute that to the more elliptical shape than all other tandem canopies.

Third, the toggle pressure is lighter, but the EZ isn't all that bad (remember, i fly SETS also!). You will notice the responsiveness and the quickness of your turns, the sluggish 425 doesn't hold a dime to the turning of the Sigma. Like a Stiletto, you and your passenger have to let up on the turn about 90 degrees from where you want to be headed (usually only when your spinning 360's or 720's).

Lastly, Landing them can be hot, but they produce massive lift (even here in Colorado elev. 5000'), and the toggle pressure will let you flare to your knees even on the 12th tandem that day!

Probably the best all around canopy for tandems I have flown. If you have any more questions feel free to email me at skydivingtrance@aol.com

I have about 50 jumps on a Sigma 370 and three on a Sigma 395. I have about 5 jumps on an EZ425.

First, you will luuuuuuvv the way it opens compared to your EZ425. I side pack it, rolling the nose on each side and tucking in the center sell in the standard Vector manner.

Next, the toggle pressure is noticeably lighter

It will land very differently, more like a two-stage sport landing. I chose to make two jumps with an experienced Tandem Master on the front to get used to the landing flare before taking paying customers. I also use a "bump and run" or "double flare" to get more speed and lift for the landing. Standups are a breeze when there is wind, and sliding landings are much softer than the EZ425.

See if you can find some of the Tandem Masters at Eloy to talk to . . . they use both the Sigma 370 and the Sigma 395 out there.

Actually, the Sigma mains are the exact same airfoil as a Vengence, just with out the airlocks (of course). However, if you pack them right, you will have nice, very very nice openings that will snivel for a long time and open on heading (passenger willing :P).
