There are a ton of rigging related books out there and reading all of them, or as much as you can would make your actual progression into being a rigger easier. Of course, there is no teacher like experience and unfortunately that only comes with time.
Poynter's manuals (Vol. I & II) are considered the riggers bible and are probably the most important and comprehensive.

Plenty of packing manuals are now published on-line.
Find them on manufacturers' web-sites by going to www.pia.com and search through the yellow pages.

Also go to the Australian Parachute Federation's web-site and look under publications for the only complete list of service bulletins
http://www.apf.asn.au/apf_services/sb.asp.
